5/2
By Michele
Have at it, kids.
VFTW has Taylor as their new pick--to piss off the producers! hahahaha
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:01 PM
WooHoo. Fab Five night! Hi everyone! Just back in time from Myrtle! Sands, sun, waves, and now AI! Who could ask for more!
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:02 PM
Evening, all!
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:02 PM
Elliott: Loved him last week, but this blows. I can't detect anything resembling the correct notes, he's doing so much melisma. And his vibrato is WAY too thick. I hated that.
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:03 PM
Hey everyone!
Elliot did so good last week, that was really a disappointment.
Beth, glad to see you made it this week.
Posted by: Tammy at May 2, 2006 08:06 PM
Simon is right on. Elliot sings like that again, he's going home.
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:06 PM
Yamin the machine? Yick. that's almost as bad as Pick Pickler. Speaking of which, I went right through Kellie country (Albemarle, NC) on my way home today. they still love their Pick Pickler!
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:08 PM
Not loving this.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:10 PM
1988? I think I feel sick...
Posted by: Tammy at May 2, 2006 08:11 PM
Paris: This girl is so fake I can't stand it. I swear, she pre-plans every one of her little motions and mannerisms and gestures to the camera. I keep saying it every week, but she just reeks of inauthenticity.
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:11 PM
This totally didn't help her show off her voice.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:11 PM
Simon: Dead on.
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:11 PM
Hey, everybody! Whoa, two songs each tonight!
Yeah, I'm a huge Elliott fan, but that was "meh" for me. Paris didn't get me going, either. Perhaps their second songs will be much better.
P.S. I'm like two years older than Paris! Damn...
Holy crap, Chris is doing Styx! I haven't heard this song in a while...sounds good so far...
Posted by: Samit at May 2, 2006 08:13 PM
Oh, surprise, surprise. Creedy Chris gets the light show again.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:13 PM
Chris: Meh. Back to the light shows and whatnot. That honestly did nothing for me.
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:14 PM
I think I just am not that into Chris. They loved this, I just thought "Mheh."
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:15 PM
paris: Simon dead on again. That was terrible.
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:17 PM
I loved Chris' performance there, but I also admit to liking Styx in public :-)
Posted by: Ian S. at May 2, 2006 08:17 PM
It's funny, this is one of my walking songs on my IPod and everytime I hear it, I think that this is the type of song that would be perfect for him. Guess I was wrong. Not bad. Best of the night, but will trail Katherine and Taylor.
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:18 PM
Ooh, I'm liking Katharine's dress so far...it's very tight...
Posted by: Samit at May 2, 2006 08:20 PM
This SUCKS!!!!
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:21 PM
Katherine: WTF is she wearing? Why aren't her breasts shiny? She could corner the shiny breast demographic!
Her performance: More pitch problems and melisma all over the place. I've liked her in the past, but another "meh". What's going on? Did I drink the rum-flavored extract instead of the actual rum or something???
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:21 PM
Ugh. Katherine's singing many pitches, all of them wrong.
Posted by: Ian S. at May 2, 2006 08:21 PM
::shooting arrows of hate at the TV::
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:21 PM
I dunno, Chris...Katharine started out meh and then got better...I guess I'm just not a huge fan of the song...
Posted by: Samit at May 2, 2006 08:21 PM
ooh-uh-ooh. sounded like someone kicked her in the stomach. not good at all
Posted by: Todd at May 2, 2006 08:21 PM
Dear God...WHY is Taylor singing this song?!?!
Posted by: Samit at May 2, 2006 08:25 PM
Ok, I stand corrected. Chris' will be better that Kat's. That was so so. At best.
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:25 PM
Taylor: Oh, thank God, he's got a nice big bag of spaz tonight. I think he borrowed that shirt from George Huff, but at last I'm liking something tonight!
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:25 PM
LOL...so he can bounce all over the stage.
Posted by: Tammy at May 2, 2006 08:25 PM
Taylor is so...Taylor!
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:25 PM
That was awesome.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:26 PM
Oh, bite me, Simon.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:26 PM
Hey, I like this Coke commercial. Better music than on AI!
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:27 PM
10.0 Standard Taylor. If he performs like this every time, he'll win. Plain and simple. He's better than Chris, Elliot, Kat or Paris.
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:27 PM
Taylor "Funky White Boy" Hicks is my hero!
Posted by: Denise at May 2, 2006 08:28 PM
I'm really glad Pickler left. Now I feel I can enjoy the show. I think that's why I was hating this season's AI because I was rooting against someone instead of for someone.
Posted by: Denise at May 2, 2006 08:29 PM
Agreed. As long as Taylor is Taylor he'll do fine.
Posted by: Ian S. at May 2, 2006 08:29 PM
Elliot 2, the song's better. In an AI studio near you. This is better thant the first song by far. he may have saved himself and served Paris for tomorrow.
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:33 PM
Elliott sucks.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:34 PM
I'm with Simon - it was very competant, but also kinda forgettable.
Posted by: Ian S. at May 2, 2006 08:35 PM
I'm glad she's gone too, Denise. Next: Katharine. She's an arrogant jerk.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:35 PM
The problem her is that Mary J. BILGE sucks. Royally. So no song she can sing will be anything other than sucky. Bye Paris, you should have gone the last 3 weeks, you're gone tomorrow.
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:37 PM
Elliott: Nice. Just nice. Nothing more, nothing less.
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:37 PM
This is about a thousand times better than her first song.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:37 PM
OMG, thank you, Beth. Katharine just....gets on my nerves. I can't put my finger on it, she just bugs me. I'm glad it's not just me.
Posted by: Tammy at May 2, 2006 08:37 PM
BILGE! hahahaha
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:37 PM
It is SO not just you, Tammy. She's got a legion of haters. ;-)
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:38 PM
Paris 2.0: Ick. I hated that too. Fake, fake, fake. Randy says "You did your thing" -- but she doesn't have a fucking "thing". She's a damned robot. More pre-programmed motions and gestures, and dance steps that make me think of Cuba Gooding shouting "Show me the money!"
Ick.
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:39 PM
What's sad is that today's music sucks so badly, that I don't listen to FM anymore. I have an IPod attachment for my van radio and I play the songs I like. So I have no idea what any of these songs are. And, I'm rather glad for it.
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:39 PM
Good point, Denise. I like each of these five finalists, and I'm not rooting against any of them.
Elliott #2: Good vocal, but like Simon said, it didn't draw me in. I really like him, but he might be going home if the rest of the guys don't screw up.
Paris #2: I can't remember someone doing a song on AI in which they swore, but it was a pretty decent rendition of a Mary J. "joint", as Randy put it.
Posted by: Samit at May 2, 2006 08:39 PM
You stand corrected...Mary J. Blige does not suck.
Posted by: Camille at May 2, 2006 08:42 PM
Never mind lights, he has fire. Ick.
Posted by: Tammy at May 2, 2006 08:43 PM
I don't listen to FM anymore.
Me either, Chris. Radio is teh suck.
Kinda like this suckage from Chris Daughtry.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:44 PM
I don't think the lights are for *Chris*, they're for *rock*. This is fundamentally a Top 40 show, so they really don't understand rock lighting :)
Posted by: Ian S. at May 2, 2006 08:44 PM
Chris 2.0: Between the black leather and all the flames and stuff, I'm flashing back to the end of "Revenge of the Sith".
I liked that a lot more than I've liked him in quite a while.
(And is anyone else getting sick of hearing Randy's asshole chuckle?)
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:44 PM
Fucking Creed clone. Yuck.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:44 PM
Each to their own Camille. To me Mary J is just another overrated "attitude" pretending to be talent. Marylin Manson, 50 cent, Limp Bizkit, etc and 90 percent plus of the singers out there today are a dime a dozen.
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:46 PM
Yuck. Someon get her off the floor. Please.
Posted by: Tammy at May 2, 2006 08:46 PM
Yeah, Chris sounded like he was screaming in parts of that song. I mean, yeah, that's sorta how he sings, but he was more shouting than singing at certain points.
Whoo! The shiny breasts are back!
Posted by: Samit at May 2, 2006 08:46 PM
Mary J. Blige couldn't have been a star prior to the invention of Antares AutoTune. (Neither could Kelly Clarkson IMO, but that's another can of worms).
Posted by: Ian S. at May 2, 2006 08:47 PM
Katherine: Like the song, but get off the floor, girl! Sheesh.
Posted by: Denise at May 2, 2006 08:47 PM
WTF is this? Katharine demonstrating her ability to be on her knees? What the hell?
This song sucks too. Woohoo.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:47 PM
Katherine: God DAMN it, don't come out there with shiny breasts and then crouch on the floor so we can't see them! Jee-bus!
This is just weird. I don't hate it. In fact, the sheer weirdness of it is kind of sucking me in. It's like a lava lamp.
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:47 PM
Yeah, she's used to being on her knees.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:48 PM
kat is safe for next week. I really think it'l be Elliot and Paris going to the B2 next week. But I've been wrong most of this season. We'll see.
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:48 PM
Brace yourselves for Full Taylor Impact...
Posted by: Ian S. at May 2, 2006 08:49 PM
Overall, I'd say Katharine will be fine because that was unique...she took a chance, and I think it sounded great. Plus, we got a chance to see her in a, um, compromising position...
Posted by: Samit at May 2, 2006 08:49 PM
And yeah, barring a truly bad song choice by Taylor Paris and Elliot are probably the bottom 2.
Posted by: Ian S. at May 2, 2006 08:49 PM
I don't listen to the radio either anymore.
lol, Ian about Autotune. :)
Posted by: Denise at May 2, 2006 08:51 PM
About Taylor: VFTW has selected him next. He could be in serious trouble. They're 0-2 at least this year. It looks like the kiss of death is VFTW's backing.
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:51 PM
Chris, some may say that Mary J doesn't have talent, but nobody sings a Mary J song like Mary J.
Some people thing Mariah Carey is terrible, but nobody else can sing a Mariah Carey song like Mariah.
:)
Posted by: nastybastard at May 2, 2006 08:52 PM
Oh, thank God, Taylor's back: This guy knows how to do songs with nuance. Fucking great. That's my man!
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:54 PM
VERY forgettable night. VERY!
Posted by: apat at May 2, 2006 08:55 PM
Very nice choice by Taylor, and very well performed.
Posted by: Ian S. at May 2, 2006 08:55 PM
Interesting choice, a Beatles song...Taylor did it well.
Posted by: Samit at May 2, 2006 08:55 PM
taylor wins the night. Good bye Elliot or Paris.
Order of the night:
1. Taylor
2. Chris
3. Kat
4/5 Paris - Elliot.
Going home: Probably Paris. But she may survive another week sending Elliot home.
Have a good night everyone!
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 08:57 PM
I think H**LL just froze over--Simon complimented Taylor!
Posted by: deb at May 2, 2006 08:57 PM
Taylor was great, as usual.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:57 PM
I'd say that either Paris or Elliott can go.
Posted by: Jaquandor at May 2, 2006 08:57 PM
I agree, Chris--Elliott and Paris will be the bottom two. I WISH it would be Katharine, though.
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 08:58 PM
Katherine *should* leave, but I bet she won't.
Posted by: Denise at May 2, 2006 09:00 PM
There is no way Elliott shoud be going home. He is hands down the *best* singer in the competition.
Posted by: nastybastard at May 2, 2006 09:01 PM
GAHH! I missed the voting numbers! Did anyone catch the number for Taylor?
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 09:02 PM
1-866-436-5705 or 10...good luck, I can't get thru. And Baylee is pissed that I'm not voting for Paris, lol.
Posted by: Tammy at May 2, 2006 09:03 PM
This show did not make me happy except for one of Chris', Elliot's and Taylor's songs.
BTW, Mary is still singing and selling (@15 yrs) because she is not an overrated attitude or diva. She is a very real performer and that's what keeps her records selling. Agree to disagree...
Posted by: Camille at May 2, 2006 09:03 PM
Taylor was last, so 5705 to text and
1-866-43657-05 and 1-866-43657-10...yeah, that makes sense
Posted by: Samit at May 2, 2006 09:04 PM
Paris or Elliot...
Taylor redeemed himself at the end.
Posted by: Camille at May 2, 2006 09:07 PM
Camille: Didn't know she was in it that long. 15 years of staying power is admirable. Agree to agree to disagree amicably. I am sure my IPod would cause a lot of vomit to fly amongst a lot of people. Have a good night!
Posted by: Chris at May 2, 2006 09:16 PM
OK: 1st comment this year (I wait for the top 5 to avoid commenting on the chattle):
I am amazed how well the Idol producers keep track of the Web blogs (like this one)! The talk this week: Taylor was 'Lithgoed' like Clay in AI season Two (Term to discribe bumping songs at the last minute for no good reason & making the contestent sing a crappy song 'cause it's easy for the band to play). They noted that he hasn't gotten ANY production value except for the Sax Dude from Hell - no Daughtry lights or fog. And he's the ONLY one still standing that hadn't had the 'Pimp Spot' at the end of the show once this year, while Chris has ahd it TWICE. Even the choice by VFTW.com was to '...stick it to the man..." after last week's Elliott-is'SO'wonderful garbage.
So, what happens this week?
Taylor gets the 'Pimp Spot'. Taylor gets production values (although no fog, they DID have the disco lights going!)
And... for the 1st time in FIVE YEARS, they get approval from the Beatles for a song. For Taylor.
And he did what he does. Pure magic.
Notice there was no 'sitdown' with Ryan & Taylor?
They had time to discuss Kat's 'Wardrobe Malfunction', but didn't take a chance that he might have a word or two for America before the 1st song.
Bottom line - Paris knew she was a goner b4 the show, so she let it hang out (notice the $hit lyric edited from her MJB song?), Kat's Dad was restrained this time (cause he's a Hollywood Producer doesn't mean he can berate the judges in the break), Elliott got the usual 'dont vote him off yet' judgements, and Taylor just MIGHT get a good Elvis song next week.
Me, I'm waiting for 'Georgia' or - if they let him do an original song - 'Soulthing'
Posted by: Chuckles at May 2, 2006 10:01 PM
Well most of tonight was kind of boring.
I liked Chris doing Styx, but hated his second song.
My hate for Paris has just grown worse. I don't believe a word she sings.
I liked Katherine's second performance but I think I'm in love with KT Tunstall so anyone who sings that song relatively well makes me tingly in my happy places.
Posted by: Timmer at May 2, 2006 10:14 PM
Even the choice by VFTW.com was to '...stick it to the man..."
And I love it! I almost thought they were going to pick Katharine because they (like the rest of us) hate her, but she's too easy. Taylor is not only far more interesting and fun than any of the others, he's going to be confusing as hell for TPTB. Fuck 'em and their slickly packaged bubblegum Tiger Beat schtick (how else would Acehole have lasted so long?).
And IF TPTB actually do read this:
HEY--quit bringing on teh suck like Barry Manilow, Rod Stewart, and Kenny Rogers. Schmaltzy crap doesn't appeal to any of your audience (least of all us here)!
Posted by: Beth at May 2, 2006 10:33 PM
"how else would Acehole have lasted so long?"
I work with a woman who voted for him 40 times the night he went out. Her statement was "he's so cute, he has to stay". Now this woman was older than I am (I'm in my 40's). When I re-informed her that he couldn't sing, her reply: "I don't care, he can't leave" That's how juice-o-matic stayed. Lots of women like her.
Posted by: Chris at May 3, 2006 12:43 AM
I voted for Elliot... I love his soulfull voice. Chris is a favorite and if he wins, he will deserve it. Kat, although an early fav of mine, doesn't live up to my expectations. She really turned me off was when she was in the bottom 2/3 recently and looked so totally *shocked*. Taylor should stay. Paris should go. My choice for the final 3: Chris, Elliott & Taylor. A good thing, as no white boy has won AI yet.
Posted by: Nan at May 3, 2006 09:21 AM
Where's Michele?
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:01 PM
I guess we can continue here. HI Beth!
Posted by: Chris at May 3, 2006 09:02 PM
Faith? Michele? Stacy? Bueller? Bueller?
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:03 PM
Hi Chris!
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:03 PM
I guess now we get to do the scroll-down again. ;-)
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:04 PM
Yeah, that's ok. Hey, here goes the crappy group sing. Woo Hoo.
Posted by: Chris at May 3, 2006 09:04 PM
WTF is this schmaltzy shit?
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:04 PM
This is where you wish one of us "nobodies" had a login.
hey y'all!
Posted by: Tammy at May 3, 2006 09:05 PM
Looks like a bad rendition of a telethon fundraiser.
Posted by: Chris at May 3, 2006 09:05 PM
This is just awful.
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:05 PM
Hey Tammy!
Dial Idol has Paris going with Kat as a possibility. I stand by yesterday, Paris goes. Anyone else?
Posted by: Chris at May 3, 2006 09:06 PM
'evening everyone
Posted by: Priscilla at May 3, 2006 09:06 PM
Hey, Tammy! Yeah, we're more regular here than the hosts!
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:06 PM
It's like that group on the Simpson's named Hooray for Everything. That was bad. Very bad.
Posted by: Chris at May 3, 2006 09:07 PM
Too bad Simon won't be ripping on them for that atrocity--although he likes that weak shit.
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:07 PM
Yeah, and a few of the singers were rather pitchy to start out, especially Taylor and Paris.
Posted by: Samit at May 3, 2006 09:08 PM
Hi Priscilla!
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:08 PM
I think it'll be Paris (and Baylee would probably hit me if she were reading what I'm typing), but I wish it were Kat. Gos she bugs me!
Posted by: Tammy at May 3, 2006 09:08 PM
Hey Samit - I'm glad everyone didn't punk out with there being no new post. :-)
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:08 PM
Oh geez, if I had a login I could fix my typos, too!
Posted by: Tammy at May 3, 2006 09:09 PM
I am SO hoping Kat is booted. I can not stand her! Dial Idol has Paris and Kat as the bottom two, and they picked Paris. They did last week too, though--and I think the week before--so it's not an exact science.
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:10 PM
Heh heh...when life gives you lemons, right, Beth?
Posted by: Samit at May 3, 2006 09:11 PM
hey Priscilla, Samit. Good to see ya.
Hey, another Ford commercial. They're going to make a ton of cash on those alone.
Posted by: Chris at May 3, 2006 09:11 PM
1 Taylor Hicks 33.232 1.626 -
2-4 (B3) Chris Daughtry 27.774 1.692 -
2-4 (B3) Elliott Yamin 27.643 1.693 -
2-5 (B3) Katharine McPhee 24.583 1.729 -
4-5 (B3) Paris Bennett 23.375 1.742 -
(Dial Idol predictions)
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:12 PM
Hey, Simon changed his shirt!
Posted by: Tammy at May 3, 2006 09:12 PM
Ok, let me be all-inclusive (I don't want to forget anyone)...it's great to see that everyone's here!
Posted by: Samit at May 3, 2006 09:13 PM
I read that they do 32 fucking commercials during the Tuesday night show, which didn't surprise me at all.
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:13 PM
God, Kat's Phil Collins shite was awful.
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:14 PM
I had heard that next week is Elvis week. Two songs from Elvis will benefit Taylor big time.
Posted by: Chris at May 3, 2006 09:15 PM
Wow, no joke, Chris!
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:15 PM
Hey Beth, Chris ;)
I don't even know who I'm rooting for, I didn't get a chance to watch last night's show yet, so I'm just here for the sake of being here and of hating Katharine with you.
Posted by: Priscilla at May 3, 2006 09:16 PM
WTF are the others possibly going to do with Elvis? What a nightmare.
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:16 PM
Yay, another Katherine hater!
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:16 PM
Hey guys, sorry for the delay, new post for tonight is up.
Posted by: Michele Catalano at May 3, 2006 09:17 PM
I think it's hilarious that VFTW picked Taylor just to piss off Simon and the producers. Just imagining Simon with Taylor winning is perfect. And I LIKE Simon, but he's a pain in the ass.
Posted by: Beth at May 3, 2006 09:18 PM
Well, Chris could shout a couple of his songs, like hound dog and jailhouse rock. Kat would take on falling in love and some other. Elliot's picks would be a mystery. Paris will be gone so she won't get to butcher anything.
Posted by: Chris at May 3, 2006 09:18 PM
Damn, Graceland! FOX spares no expense...
Posted by: Samit at May 3, 2006 09:20 PM
