4/4/06

By Michele

You are on your own tonight, kids. I don't think I can take a night of this group singing country songs.

Bar is open, snacks on the table, help yourself.

Ah, southern station speaking of possible sabotage in the contest. Sore freaking losers.

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:00 PM

Ok, the meeting has now come to order. I'll go first.

Hello, my name is Chris. I am an Idolaholic. It has been 6 days since my last Idol viewing, on my honor, or may I be chopped up and made into fish food. It started oh so simple, just a click on Idol Tongues. Then, I just couldn't stop. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and some Thursdays, I had to be there. It was terrible. Anyway, I'm glad I got that off my chest. Now who's next. Beth? Come on, I saw you on that seedy bar called Idolreview...

Hi everyone!

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:01 PM

Why pick a genre that favors two contestants? Why not pick something that they can all equally be mediocre at?

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:02 PM

Oh, come on. Taylor can handle anything. Bring it on grey brother!

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:03 PM

Gah! What did Kenny Rogers do to his hair?!

Taylor: Lord Almighty, this arrangement is way too fast. This song's got lots of notes that need to be lingered on, and this tempo isn't letting him do it.

Posted by: Jaquandor at April 4, 2006 08:04 PM

You're absolutely right Jaquandor. Way too fast. Still, I think that will be better than most tonight. Taylor shows he can compete on anyones turf.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:05 PM

Hey, everybody. I found this site when I googled 'American Idol blog', and I've been on it for weeks now. This is my first comment...

Jeez, Seacrest looks like he just left Teri Hatcher in a motel room. That scraggly beard has got to go.

Posted by: Samit at April 4, 2006 08:06 PM

I do like Taylor but man, that kinda sucked.

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:07 PM

Mandisa...if she doesn't put religion in it and doesn't sing it at light speed i'll probably be ok.

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:07 PM

Welcome to the party Samit. Some of the regulars may not be around tonight. Some folks just aren't country fans.

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:08 PM

I love Mandy, but this isn't doing it for me. I guess its the genre...

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:12 PM

Wow, this is terrible. She sounds nervous. Tentative. Where's the belt it out Mandissa we all love.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:13 PM

Mandisa: I love her (she and Taylor are my favorites), but this doesn't really ring my bell. Oh, wait -- she just hit the chorus and it got a lot better. OK.

Posted by: Jaquandor at April 4, 2006 08:13 PM

That was a train wreck in progress. Her worst performance of her competition.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:14 PM

It's the genre..it's going to bring down everyone we love.

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:15 PM

Simon went there! =)

Posted by: Ian S. at April 4, 2006 08:15 PM

I don't really understand why they're doing country ... This is a pop competition. Next week, will everyone be forced to sing opera?

Posted by: Corrine at April 4, 2006 08:15 PM

Mandisa singin' Shanaynay.

Not doin' anything for me.

What the hell is Chris going to sing?

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:16 PM

It's to ensure maximum ratings. And the beard really does have to go. Oh let's hope Elliot does ok.

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:16 PM

Hm...I love Taylor and Mandisa, but their performances today were "meh" for me. Why do I get the feeling that country night is gonna make me hate everyone?

On second thought, that's not entirely bad. I'll just hate Ace and Bucky even more.

Posted by: Samit at April 4, 2006 08:17 PM

Elliott: For some reason, this guy has yet to make an impression on me. He's got too much vibrato. Still, this is OK.

Man -- three "OK's" tonight thus far. Where's the awesome "Idol" of yore???

Posted by: Jaquandor at April 4, 2006 08:18 PM

Elliot: Nope sorry, not that good. Dang, this is a hard week.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:18 PM

Welcome to the group Samit! Elliot was okay in my opinion.

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:18 PM

Hey y'all. Just got in. Kenny Freakin' Rogers? Are they kidding?! Where are they digging up all these old geezers? Can't they get anybody cool on this show anymore? Ok, Stevie was cool. He can't be anything, but cool. I think Kenny has a new album out, but geez...

Posted by: Denise at April 4, 2006 08:19 PM

Elliot's looking cool, tonight.

Posted by: Denise at April 4, 2006 08:20 PM

Paris might do better than ok tonight. Oh, what the hell is it with all the beard? Will every male on the show have one soon?

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:21 PM

I thought Eliott did a very good job. Mandisa just sucked in my opinion--I think it would have been better if she'd done it an octave higher. I can't wait to see what Chris does!

Posted by: Amanda at April 4, 2006 08:24 PM

She should stick with this style. it looks great on her.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:25 PM

Yeah, Paris looks really sharp tonight. Not sounding bad either.

Posted by: Ian S. at April 4, 2006 08:26 PM

Finally, a performance that's better than ok.

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:26 PM

Paris: those low notes are painful. And what's so country about this song?

She's doing her "power ballad" thing, which is OK if you like that sort of thing. Meh.

Posted by: Jaquandor at April 4, 2006 08:27 PM

First request of the night Ian. Paris please ^_^

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:27 PM

That was decent. Best of the night. Not bad for someone who is way out of her area. Good job Paris.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:28 PM

Who wants to bet we'll be hearing the falseto again?

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:29 PM

Ace doing I want to Cry. I can relate. Seeing him makes me want to Cry.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:30 PM

He's just so freaking boy band.

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:30 PM

Ace: This might be his best performance yet. It's not going to make me a fan, but he's doing very well with it, I think. He seems to actually be connecting with the song, which I haven't seen yet tonight.

Posted by: Jaquandor at April 4, 2006 08:31 PM

I also always saw Ace as a boy band kinda guy. Except I definitely prefer the Backstreet Boys to him. And that falsetto sickens me.

Posted by: Samit at April 4, 2006 08:33 PM

Ok, I'll admit it, that wasn't bad. Upper half of the night so far.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:33 PM

It was good till he fracked that note at the end...

Posted by: Amanda at April 4, 2006 08:34 PM

Just pulled this out of a Celebrity Nooz email I get:

Prince on Idol?...

This year 'American Idol' has had a guest performer every
Wednesday. And this week Kenny Rogers gets the honor.

But the big Idol news is that Prince will reportedly appear on
the show to both coach contestants and perform. Word is he was
convinced him to appear on the show to promote his #1 album,
after noting a huge spike in album sales when Barry Manilow
appeared on the program. According to one source, "It wasn't
easy though because Prince apparently hates the show and has
never even watched it."

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:34 PM

I knew he'd be doing the falseto, where's my cookie? Did he get any of those notes right? Because I know he hit a few sours.

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:34 PM

I think they've all been terrible tonight. I just haven't liked any of them. My ACE HATE METER just went up a notch.

Bleh. It's probably just the genre.

Here's looking forward to Chris' performance.

Posted by: nastybastard at April 4, 2006 08:35 PM

I'm with you on that last point, nastybastard--I can't WAIT to see what Chris does!

Posted by: Amanda at April 4, 2006 08:36 PM

Is it bad that I want to strangle her? Is it wrong to just want to reach through the screen and physically smack her?

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:37 PM

Not according to the good folks in Albemarle, her home town, who have made the kickpicker.com site...

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:37 PM

So, do you think that Kelli is really that stupid, or do you think she is playing stupid?

So far this is a pretty good performance by Kelli.

Posted by: nastybastard at April 4, 2006 08:38 PM

So what will Pickler's shiny red breasts be singing tonight? I wonder...

You know, I'm actually not hating this. Now if they'd move to a different camera angle so that the phone number thingie isn't blocking her shiny red breasts.

Posted by: Jaquandor at April 4, 2006 08:39 PM

she's playing. And, yes, she is showing everyone that country is her turf. That was an absolute butt kick. Wow. That was good.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:39 PM

Kellie singin' Reba.

This should be her best week. She's losin' words but I've got to say that was her best performance yet.

Unfortunately the best so far tonight.

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:40 PM

I was surprised--I thought that song would be to big for her, but she pulled it off.

Posted by: Amanda at April 4, 2006 08:42 PM

Chris is from North Carolina, so he should rock the house tonight. I wasn't digging Creed last week; I'm sure he'll bring it tonight.

To be honest, I actually really like Katharine. I know some people can't stand her, but I think she's a great singer. Plus, it doesn't hurt to be sexy.

Posted by: Samit at April 4, 2006 08:44 PM

Chris doing a ballad? Wow, gutsy. Well done son. this is good.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:46 PM

Chris.

Who would have thought he could pull this out?

this is suwheeeeeet!

Oh Ian!

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:46 PM

He hit that one so far out of the park, it landed on the moon. Wow, beat Pickler at her own game.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:47 PM

Simon's hitting Paula's stash tonight.

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:47 PM

Love Katharine..and notice how Simon's dissing Kenny by saying how boring the songs are?

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:49 PM

Chris: I'm with Simon. That was dullsville. Chris has a nice voice, but that song was just dull.

Posted by: Jaquandor at April 4, 2006 08:49 PM

I'm glad Chris listened to Simon's advice (from last week) and branched out with a ballad. It'll help keep him on the show, which is the ultimate goal anyway.

Posted by: Samit at April 4, 2006 08:49 PM

Katherine.

Shiny purple breasts. Yay!

I don't like her, but I like her voice a lot.

When she's belting she's hot, but the rest of it was lost in the instrumentation.

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:49 PM

Ok, that worked. Real well. I give extra credit for people who go out of their style and nail it. that was great.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:50 PM

Katherine: I liked that a lot. She's growing on me every week.

Posted by: Jaquandor at April 4, 2006 08:51 PM

So much for ending on a high note. There's that damn cowboy hat again.

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:51 PM

Shiny purple breasts, indeed.

Ah, damn. I had almost forgotten about Bucky. Please, America...come to your senses and send him back to Hickville, where he belongs.

Posted by: Samit at April 4, 2006 08:51 PM

Pothead's in the pimp spot. This could be interesting. Right up his alley. He better nail it or he's going home.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:52 PM

Hey now, the south may be hickville but you say that like it's a bad thing :P

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:52 PM

Sorry, I had to change my underwear after Chris's performance...
Katharine was awesome--perfect song for her.
Samit, if it were up to me, Bucky would already be gone!

Posted by: Amanda at April 4, 2006 08:52 PM

You know what? I don't care what color they are. Shiny breasts rule. All hail the shiny breasts!

Posted by: Jaquandor at April 4, 2006 08:53 PM

Oh god it's going to be hell. Oh well..at least he's going home tomorrow!

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:54 PM

Bucky is painful to watch.

Posted by: Samit at April 4, 2006 08:55 PM

Bucky.

This is country?

Didn't U2 record this?

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:56 PM

Ace or Bucky has got to go.

Posted by: C. Rose at April 4, 2006 08:56 PM

Bucky: You know those giant foam cowboy hats? Does Bucky's hat look like the reverse version of one of those? Damn, that is one small hat. He's not gettin' ten gallons in that hat, no sir. Maybe five.

Oh yeah, he sang. Not very well. I think he's done.

Posted by: Jaquandor at April 4, 2006 08:56 PM

I didn't like this a bit.

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:57 PM

I don't know this song, but I like it and I don't think Pothead did it half bad.

Posted by: Ian S. at April 4, 2006 08:57 PM

I didn't like that one. Middle of the road. And since he should have nailed it, he goes in the bottom 3 for me.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 08:57 PM

Bottom Three:

Ace
Bucky
Elliott

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:58 PM

I'm worried. I feel like Bucky's performance wasn't bad enough to get him voted off, which may mean that someone other than him or Ace goes home. And I would not deal well with that.

Posted by: Samit at April 4, 2006 08:59 PM

I want to hear Katherine sing "Black Velvet."

Posted by: Timmer at April 4, 2006 08:59 PM

Top 3

1. Katherine
2. Chris
3. Pick Picker.

Bottom 3

1. Mandissa
2. Taylor
3. Pothead

have a good night everyone! See you tomorrow.

Posted by: Chris at April 4, 2006 09:00 PM

I suspect Taylor may get a Bottom Three scare this week (Ruben, Fantasia, and Bo all visited the bottom three at one point before either winning or reaching the finals). Bucky did nothing for me. I suspect Ace goes home.

The only really good performance tonight was Katherine's, in my opinion.

Oh well. Results tomorrow! See you all then.

Posted by: Jaquandor at April 4, 2006 09:03 PM

Top: Katharine, Chris, Paris
Out: Taylor

Since I'm at work I can't do mp3s tonight, but if you email your requests [terran at godmonkey.com] I'll fill them as soon as possible.

Posted by: Ian S. at April 4, 2006 09:03 PM

God, I hope Taylor doesn't go...

See you guys tomorrow night!

Posted by: Samit at April 4, 2006 09:06 PM

Is it just me or does this season of Idol really suck? I thought last season showcased way more talent.

Posted by: Chitown at April 4, 2006 10:19 PM

They were all so boring last night I couldn't pick a bottom 3 so I let my dog Petey pick (our scientific process involved treats & wads of paper)

Petey's Bottom 3:
Taylor
Ace
Paris

He accidently swallowed Paris' piece of paper so she is going home

Posted by: Teresa at April 5, 2006 10:10 AM

if katherine sings(come to me) from the disco days she will get votes if iam right . she will shine bright!!
