And Then There Were Three!

By Michele

Well, we're getting down to the end here. I'm sure going to miss my Tuesday nights with you all when this is over.

Tonight, the final three - Bo, Vonzelle and Carrie - will each sing three songs. Is it me or is this feeling a bit more like torture each week?

We'll be ready to go in just ten minutes. I'm predicting a big night for Bo. Just a gut feeling.

Here we go. And Clive Davis is in the house. I'm not a big fan of guest judges.

Ok, three songs - personal choice, judges' choice and Clive Davis's choice. Clive's choices are first.

---

Vonzelle first, I'll Never Love This Way Again.

Hmm..she doesn't sound as powerful as she usually does. She sounds....different. I can't put my finger on it. I don't think I really like what she did with this song.

Eh, Clive is bitching about her smiling during the song.

----

OH, this is going to be GOOD. Don't Let the Sun Go Down is a perfect song for him.

I'm really liking this, but I'm so biased I can't be taken seriously anymore when it comes to Bo.

That was so good.

---

Carrie doing Crying? This could be a disaster or a star-maker. NO in between.

Nice job. She was better than Vonzelle in this round. I'm not a huge Carrie fan, but I think this is my favorite performance of hers. She actually showed some emotion.

---

Next round is contestant's pick. Prediction: Carrie will go with a country torch song, Vonzelle will do a current R&B, maybe Alicia Keyes, and Bo will do a 70's rock tune.

---

Vonzelle, ruining my prediction, is doing Chain of Fools. This is good, but I still feel like Vonzelle is missing something tonight. Her voice was made for a song like this. Good choice for her.

They really have to stop saying "best vocal sung on this show" so often. Kind of takes the compliment out of it when they say it every week.

---

Whoa, Bo doing acapella? This is BOLD.

Oh my god, I think I'm having a religious experience. And I'm an atheist. If he doesn't win this thing, I'm rioting.

Holy SHIT that was amazing. Just. Fucking. Amazing.

I think I need to be by myself for a few minutes.

--

Oh yea, Carrie. Oh jesus she is NOT doing this song. And I don't think she's doing a great job with it. A bit screechy. She just ruined Air Supply for me, man.

That's right. I like Air Supply. Shut up.

Carrie has no personality. And I really thought she was too high pitched on the Air Supply song.

---

Judges picks now.

Vonzelle: On the Radio, Donna Summer. Vonzelle could rock the house with this one. Her kind of song.

Those pants are horrid.

She really has pop star quality written all over her. The look, the smile, the personality, the voice. I still don't think this was her best performance night, but she is mighty talented.

--

Paula's choice for Bo: The Stones, Can't Get No Satisfaction.

She worked hard to pick this one out for him. She knew he would blow it out of the water. I'm convinced he can sing anything. He could sing the alphabet and I'd be mesmerized. I have never bought a CD by an AI contestant before, but I will now.

That totally rocked.

---
Randy's choice for Carrie: Man I Feel Like a Woman. Yee ha.

When she tries to make a "dancing" move she looks like she's riding a bull. Always.

Not. Liking. It. I think she sounds flat, screechy (again) and just no oomph. It was generic.

Yay! I'm here! Work's been keeping me from live performances. Sux.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:01 PM

Clive Davis...that doesn't suck.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:03 PM

Can't really comment tonight. Have a couple of kooky kids keeping me occupied.

Posted by: kat at May 17, 2005 08:05 PM

I want this to be better...but it's not bad.

I don't think it's going to be enough.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:06 PM

Excellent choice of song for Vonzell, but she's a bit flat in parts.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:06 PM

Slow start, but it was pretty good, and I love this song SO MUCH!

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:06 PM

BTW...iTunes has the Top 10 album out and you can buy the songs individually. I got Bo's and Nadia's.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:07 PM

Bo doing I Don't Wanna

Nadia doing You Don't Have to Say you Love Me

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:08 PM

it was just ok .. man i sound like randy ... but he and paula were right for once .. as much as i like her it was VERY pitchy

Posted by: Caryss at May 17, 2005 08:09 PM

Owwwwwwwwww, make the scarey Coke singer girl go away.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:09 PM

Hey, I just hit 670 cigs no smoked. Woo hoo!

Way to go, Faith! We'll celebrate one of these weekends.

Posted by: michele at May 17, 2005 08:10 PM

6.5 months for me. I never get cravings...ever...not me...nope...strong as a rock...that's me. Fuck...why'd you have to mention it?

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:12 PM

I won't hold my breath Mich. ;) Bo's so HOT!!!!!!

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:13 PM

Oh, man. This is good. He's got to win this year.

Posted by: Slublog at May 17, 2005 08:13 PM

Oh my god, I won't need batteries tonite.

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:13 PM

Perfect song choice, and holy shit is he running with it. Best performance of the season by anyone.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:14 PM

Bo
Kicks
Ass

Cheezy ending...not his fault...but damn that man can sing.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:14 PM

Ian, I'll be expecting the mp3 tomorrow. ;)

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:15 PM

bo is just great!

Posted by: Caryss at May 17, 2005 08:16 PM

I'll have it within 20 minutes of the end of the show :)

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:16 PM

Ian's got mp3s? Really?

Whatcha need?

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:16 PM

Get out of your nose girl.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:17 PM

i never liked this song ... ugh

Posted by: Caryss at May 17, 2005 08:17 PM

I'll put it this way - Both the girls liked Bo. A lot.

The younger of the two (she'll be a year old in a few days) couldn't take her eyes off the screen while he was singing.

A whole new generation of snarky Idol fans, coming up!

Posted by: kat at May 17, 2005 08:17 PM

Good choice of song for Carrie, but IMO she's blowing it. Way flat and nasal.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:18 PM

Think Clive picked that awful mess to tank her?

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:18 PM

She's gotta do better.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:19 PM

I don't think Clive's that way, but clearly he likes Bo :-)

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:19 PM

Ian, are you implying that Clive is THAT way?

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:20 PM

Who in the hell let Carrie wear a flesh-colored hip-level belt with a black outfit? She looked six months pregnant. (no offense, Robyn.)

Posted by: Tanya at May 17, 2005 08:21 PM

No, I meant "that way" as in "trying to tank Carrie". Heh.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:21 PM

Tanya, Nat made the same comment - "who the hell let her wear something that makes her look pregnant??"

Posted by: michele at May 17, 2005 08:24 PM

Vonzell doing Aretha?

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:24 PM

Ah, Vonz is back. This is great.

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:25 PM

Dammit Vonzell, quit holding back...let that shit loose.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:25 PM

much better than the first song ... go girl!

Posted by: Caryss at May 17, 2005 08:25 PM

Excellent. Hard vote tonight.

Posted by: Slublog at May 17, 2005 08:25 PM

Much, much better for the Vonz. Good choice, good performance.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:26 PM

I didn't like it. I don't know why.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:27 PM

It's like she's got moments of real good stuff there and she cuts it off.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:28 PM

i hate that comerical with the bicycle and the SUV. It's so much Fossil Fuel Propaganda. "oh no, bikes are deadly and scary. thank god those people were in that 'safe' suv..." what a bunch of crock.

i thought crying was good but bo has the edge so far

i thought chain of fools was boring.

Posted by: tony at May 17, 2005 08:31 PM

Okay...so we switch from McDonalds back to Burger King.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:31 PM

acapella?

Posted by: tony at May 17, 2005 08:32 PM

Given how bad the band has been this season I think Bo's smart.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:33 PM

take us to church Bo

I'm lovin' this

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:33 PM

OK I don't know this song, but this is amazingly cool. He's so going to win.

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:33 PM

i feel like im slowly being seduced!

Posted by: Caryss at May 17, 2005 08:34 PM

Well, this season's over.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:34 PM

I... I need a moment.

Posted by: Tanya at May 17, 2005 08:34 PM

Incredible. Just incredible. End the show now, he is the winner.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:34 PM

Bo came to play.

Posted by: owen at May 17, 2005 08:34 PM

the old man said bold too. hahaha

Posted by: tony at May 17, 2005 08:35 PM

Did you see that look on Paula's face while Randy was talking? LIke oh man, I can't wait to bone him.

Not that I blame her.

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:35 PM

What's this about Paula knowing the secrets of Bo's insides?

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:35 PM

Whoa. That was oustanding. I didn't recognize the song, but it was a great job.

I think the band's pissed, though.

Posted by: Slublog at May 17, 2005 08:36 PM

Oh shit Oh shit Oh shit...That was amazing.

Posted by: kat at May 17, 2005 08:36 PM

Air Supply? Bwahahahaha.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:36 PM

It doesn't matter who wins, I'm buying all these peoples' albums. (By "peoples" I mean Vonz, Bo and Carrie.)

It's wierd. They've got Clive Davis there the most experienced knowledge man in the music bidness and whatever he says, the 3 judges say exactly the opposite.

Posted by: denise at May 17, 2005 08:36 PM

Air Supply?

AIR SUPPLY?!

WTF is she thinking?

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:37 PM

Air Supply? Carrie's a mood killer.

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:37 PM

Hm. This isn't that good.

Posted by: Slublog at May 17, 2005 08:38 PM

now i feel like timmer felt about vonzell .. lol .. something about it (or her maybe) didnt make me like it

Posted by: Caryss at May 17, 2005 08:38 PM

That was just not good. Air Supply was better.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:39 PM

Ohhhhhhhhh, Clive Davis produced it, dumb, dumb, dumb...it wasn't her.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:39 PM

Bo...showing his gospel roots...wow...that was beyond...beyond...

Carrie just made me like an Air Supply song.

(George Huff in the audience! yo!)

Posted by: denise at May 17, 2005 08:40 PM

Hey chele, we all had our Air Supply moments in the 80s...usually about 3 in the morning? Or was that just me and my current gf at the time?

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:40 PM

Sith happens??? How much more can they make me think this movie will suck?

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:41 PM

Michele: I'd love to make fun of you, but I have that actual song on my iPod :)

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:41 PM

My wife and I said the same thing about that last Bo song....it gave us both chillbumps. I think Bo just won the competition.

Posted by: Rusty at May 17, 2005 08:42 PM

How much more can they make me think this movie will suck?

Do not blaspheme Star Wars, young woman!

Posted by: michele at May 17, 2005 08:43 PM

Whoo whoo, On the Radio...

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:45 PM

Whooop whooop

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:46 PM

Ya know, I think Timmer may be right, she doesn't seem to be quite on top of her game. Nevertheless love the Vonz.

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:46 PM

Very good performance. This is the sort of song I wanted to see her do during disco week.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:46 PM

Not
the
Stones

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:48 PM

Oh...so now the band's going to suck for him?

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:48 PM

Oh Paula didn't have any subliminal motive in this choice. Love me some Bo in his ORANGE shirt.

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:48 PM

Fantastic. He's better than Jagger.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:49 PM

Mick Jagger better enjoy this tour...this guy's just taken that song from him.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:49 PM

Paula finally made a comment i actually liked .. who'da thunk it!?

Posted by: Caryss at May 17, 2005 08:51 PM

I love the way Bo applauds Simon when he slams him.

That's just cool.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:51 PM

Bo's won this thing. That was just great. This night belonged to him.

Posted by: Slublog at May 17, 2005 08:51 PM

Props to Paula for the song choice too.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:51 PM

She's trying to growl...it's coming out as a squawk.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:56 PM

ok now this is a good song for carrie. i'm liking it, for a change.

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 08:56 PM

She's much more comfortable doing country and it shows. Not a Bo-threatening performance, but very good.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 08:57 PM

Not bad...but still in her nose.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:57 PM

She doesn't have the range for that.

Posted by: owen at May 17, 2005 08:57 PM

didnt like it

Posted by: Caryss at May 17, 2005 08:58 PM

Ian sir?

I would very much like a copy of Bo's songs...my email is good.

Pretty please?

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 08:59 PM

Sure. I gotta make 'em first though, keep your pants on.

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 09:00 PM

Pants on. Waiting patiently.

timmer847@cox.net is better though

just sayin'

leaving you alone now

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 09:01 PM

Can I take my pants off?

Posted by: Faith at May 17, 2005 09:02 PM

Mine have been off since Bo's second song.

Batteries, please!

Posted by: michele at May 17, 2005 09:05 PM

Definitely Bo. Definitely.

Posted by: Mary at May 17, 2005 09:07 PM

What was Bo's number? I was in the other room when they announced them.

Posted by: Slublog at May 17, 2005 09:08 PM

Anyone know the name of Bo's second song?

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 09:15 PM

I think the song is called "Within a Dream."

Posted by: Slublog at May 17, 2005 09:16 PM

I've been lurking out here all season reading your posts, and looking forward to the opportunity to see what y'all say after the shows. Tonights show has finally motivated me to post.

I've already put Bo Bice's name on my Amazon alerts list.
When his CD ships (from whoever's lucky enough to sign him),
it will be mine. And it will be in most played list on my iPod next to Skynyrd, the Allman's, Rod Stewart Unplugged and Led Zep.

The question is: who's gonna be 2nd?

Vonzell just doesn't light any fuses for me. Technically, she's a top-notch vocalist. But so was LaToya London from Year 3.
She suffers from the same problem: cookie cutter R&B from the 'Whitney Houston' school of vocalists. (BTW: Whitney lives here in Atlanta, and has the local nickname of Skeletor)

Does anyone else out there think Carrie would have been in the top 5 of Country Star ? I'm afraid she's another Diana DeGarmo.
(and we love Diana.)

Posted by: Cap'n Chuckles at May 17, 2005 09:17 PM

Whatever happened to Diana DeGarmo?

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 09:22 PM

Cap'n Chuckles if you're still there, the new Robert Plant album kicks some serious ass.

Posted by: Timmer at May 17, 2005 09:25 PM

Yes, Plant's new album is probably one of his best efforts since he started this 'arab rythyms' kick (Kashmir-itis) :-)

Here's a treat for Bo fans: wmv's from his Helena concert.
With Skynyrd. He plays. He sings. He kicks butt.

All that's missing is Freebird. And that'll be up soon.

http://pages.prodigy.net/peipers/Intron%20Films.htm

Posted by: Cap'n Chuckles at May 17, 2005 09:40 PM

Thanks Slub. Michele and Faith: incoming. Timmer: very soon :-)

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 09:49 PM

BTW: Diana graduates from HS here this year, she's performing locally & looks to be trying to improve on her 1st album for RCA (Blue Skies) which was rushed to stores WAY too fast in order to capture some post-Idol sales. It got no promo play, and has sold about 100,000 copies.

Not bad for a high school senior. She needs to go country.
Current pop stations won't play her stuff (Clay Aiken disease).
Now Fantasia - that's different. She fits nicely into the top40 urban r&b playlists nicely. Suprise.

Posted by: Cap'n Chuckles at May 17, 2005 10:00 PM

Bo. Rules. Me.

I honestly don't know what else to say. That was just simply amazing to watch tonight. WOW.

But who will fall? I honestly think it could go either way. Carrie fell flat on all three of her songs, and something was just *off* in Vonzell tonight. I dunno... I think Vonzell deserves the spot but something tells me Carrie and Bo will be our final two.

But Bo rules. No doubt. :)

Posted by: DonnaK at May 17, 2005 10:20 PM

Tanya, we watched on TiVo so this comment is way late -- but even Todd commented that outfit made Carrie look pregnant.

Posted by: robyn at May 17, 2005 10:32 PM

Thanks Cap'n, those are awesome!

Posted by: Ian S. at May 17, 2005 10:48 PM

I am a loyal visitor to this site after every show and every two hours of voting. And I have been a Bo fan since the beginning of the season. After Bo's performances tonight, I'm simply speechless. What more can be said about this man? This was his night and if America doesn't see the superstar that I already see in him, then America never will. Utterly fantastic, amazing, mesmerizing....You could have heard a pin drop in the audience tonight during his second song....Ok I guess I'm not as speechless as I thought. I just love Bo!!! Thanks for letting me post here....

Posted by: melinda at May 17, 2005 11:16 PM

I notice a theme in the comments here as well as on my blog: everyone is basically arguing over whether Carrie was better than Vonzell or Vonzell was better than Carrie.

Because everyone seems to know they're both so far behind Bo it's not funny. :-)

Posted by: Dean Esmay at May 17, 2005 11:16 PM

And for those interested, you can download all of Bo's mp3s and videos of his performances at www.bicesquad.net. A great place to be for Bo fans!

Posted by: melinda at May 17, 2005 11:17 PM

Maybe it's because I worked 12 hours today, and I'm tired and cranky tonight, but I thought tonight's show was pretty long and boring. And Paula needs to shut the hell up...she is such an idiot. She just parrots what everyone else says, if she can even articulate anything.

Vonzell: I missed her first song tonight, because I was not home from work, but I loved "Chain of Fools" and "On the Radio". I think Vonzell is terrific. She's got a great voice, looks and personality...I like her much better than Carrie.

Bo: I like "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," but I didn't LOVE Bo singing it tonight (told you I was cranky, because I love me some Bo!). It was just a'right. However, his acapello version of "Within a Dream" blew me away...he has such a great voice. That was just fantastic. And I loved him singing "Satisfaction"...just perfect! Bo rocks. He's been my #1 choice to win since the beginning, and I think it would be great if he did, but I think Bo is here to stay. It appears that Clive Davis and Randy are interested in cutting an album with him (who wouldn't be?)

Carrie: Carrie is just so BLAH!!! She is boring, and her voice is good, but not spectacular, you know?? "Crying" is a beautiful song that usually gives me chills...compare Carrie's version with kdlang or Roy Orbison...and an AI winner she is NOT. I hated the Air Supply song when it originally came out; really hated her singing it. She was too manic in the middle of it. And it sounds like she sang "Feel Like A Woman" in a key that was too low for her!! Not good; I'm not impressed.

I would love to see Vonzell and Bo in the final two, but it will probably be Bo and Carrie.

Posted by: Janet at May 17, 2005 11:24 PM

Hey, I tried to vote for Bo tonight... really late, and the phone was busy, both numbers. I think that is a good sign. I finally got through for 2 votes, but that was all I could get in.

Personally, I am going nuts for this guy. The difference between him and everyone else, is the boys got soul. He has just got that voice... just blows me away. And his second song is probably the best song I have heard in a long long time.
I'm so glad I recorded this season from beginning to end... so worth it this time.

And by the way, you guys are so fun to tune in to read. I jump up off the couch after the show, just to see what you guys said... can't wait to see you guys next year.

Posted by: Diane at May 18, 2005 12:55 AM

First off Faith, congratulations on your decision to stay away from cigarettes. As a patch wearer myself (not doing as well as you though) I know how hard it is. Good luck!

Janet, you must have been in your glory last night listening to Bo. I personally think I saw Jeezus when he sang Within a Dream. A tear sprung in my eye and he won the competition hands down. End of story. Don't even bother bringing Carrie on because she can't cut it. Simon even said, how he'd hate to have to follow Bo in performing. Vonzie is always lovely and nice but something about her last night didn't thrill me and I hate to say it but she's gone.

Bo, the best American Idol yet.

Posted by: jen at May 18, 2005 09:49 AM

I only got two votes in, too, but I like that they changed the "thank you" message to the contestant's voice. I always halfway-wonder if I called the right number...

Posted by: Tanya at May 18, 2005 10:11 AM

Just reading somewhere that Carrie's recent extra few pounds is due to being pregnant.

Posted by: jen at May 18, 2005 11:05 AM

I liked how they had the contestants' voices when you called in last night, too. It lets you know you reached the right number. And Bo has such a cute Southern accent. I was only able to get thru to vote for him about 10 times last night, though, on either number, so that is a good sign! (Although I'm not worried about whether he'll be in the final show-down, after last night's most excellent performances!)

Posted by: Janet at May 18, 2005 11:13 AM

Jen: Where did you read that about Carrie? Not a good time for her to be pregnant, if it's true, IMHO...

Posted by: Janet at May 18, 2005 11:18 AM

I saw something on the internet about Carrie but I really don't think it's true either. Although truthfully I would love to see the okie go home. Vonzell outshines her in every way except vocally but v is just so much more likeable and fun to watch. Carrie still has that wide eyed look like she just got thrown into the Port Authority and she saw a homeless guy peeing in the corner.

Posted by: jen at May 18, 2005 11:25 AM

LOL!! Ewww...

Posted by: Janet at May 18, 2005 11:50 AM

Carrie actually looks like she's lost weight to me, not gained. (except when she was wearing that godawful belt, of course...)

Posted by: Tanya at May 18, 2005 12:01 PM

She looks like she has gained a bit of weight, to me, but I thought maybe it was just because of her hectic schedule and the probable need to grab fast food when she can.

Posted by: Janet at May 18, 2005 12:04 PM

Carrie's the AI that's going to wind up with an eating disorder. Either that a cracked out strung out junkie that will crash and burn when she's 26.

First time poster. Bo is the man. Always has been.

To get to my agenda... does anyone else get annoyed at Vonzell's relentless preening at the camera? She is the female Constantine (who I hated for the same reason), I swear. She has 3 to 4 "look how cute I am!" poses/faces and they are ALWAYS on display. I think Im the only one who feels this way. Except for Clive who told her not to smile so much in songs about loss and heartache.

Anyway. Bo vs. Carrie in the finals (based on strength of body of work). Bo wins finals in a landslide.

I hope after Bo wins he fires him up a giant Bob Marley-sized spliff backstage and blows that smoke in Ryan Seacrest's face. I bet that would really put Seacrest OUT.
