And Then There Were 10

By Michele

Live blogging of tonight's performance coming up at 8PM EST.

And tonight's theme is....

The 90's! This could make for some very interesting song choices. Will we see lots of rock or lots of...ick...Celine Dion and the Spice Girls?

And Bo starts us off with some rock and roll by the Black Crowes.

He's got the perfect voice for the song, but I don't think he's carrying it off that great. Not strong enough. Definitely not his best performance, but that doesn't mean it's bad - I just wonder how many people in the voting audience know the song enough to judge whether he did a good job with it? Or does that matter? And I think part of the problem was the musicians and back up singers (also noted by Ian in the comments). I'm also not a big Crowes fan. And, like Stacy said...safe performance.
---
Jessica has a mouth like a puppet.

Oh, Dixie Chicks. How....safe and unexciting.

Ok, that was...nice. Pleasant. I just think at this stage of the game, a performance calls for more than nice and pleasant. She just doesn't thrill me.

I really thought the 90's would bring out more daring songs.

---
Anwar up next.

What a STUPID song choice. Ugh. UGH. Is he going for inspirational? Dude has really come down in my book since the beginning. This is BORING. I don't care if he has the voice a freaking angel. This was a bad song choice. He needed to take it to the next level this week and he didn't.

Oh geez, Paula. Why don't you just get down on your knees and suck his dick while you're at it?

Simon pinned it - the first half was awful, the second half was ok - put them together and it was a half assed performance.

---

Nadia up next. She has something to prove to me this week.

This is a VERY good choice for her.

Is it me or is the band too loud tonight? The sound keeps going in and out, too.

I like this. It doesn't really show the smooth side of her voice, but it was a sexy performance and she stepped it up a bit from last week. I liked it. Much improved.

---

Constantine up next.

A ballad??

Oh my god I hate him. Not his voice, not his performance, I just despise that stupid grin and that smarmy look.

I thought that sucked, personally. I felt like I was in a roller rink, couples only. Your mileage may vary. Paula is giving out verbal blowjobs again.
---

Is anyone going to rock out tonight? Is anyone going to do anything daring and not safe? Probably not. These people should consult me first. I would tell Anthony to do some Weezer. Carrie would do Hole.

As it is, we'll probably get Shania Twain and Phil Collins.

---

Nikko up next.

I don't know this song. But he seems like he's doing an adequate job. For the second week in a row, I liked his performance.

---

Anthony up.

Yea, that neon lime green is a good color for him.

Oh jeebus help me, I don't think this is horrible. I think this is the first time I've liked one of his performances! Of course that doesn't mean much, seeing as that I thought he should have been gone already.

Four more to go. Is anyone going to blow us away tonight? SOmeone do some Nirvana or Soungarden or something different, PLEASE!
---

Carrie up doing - GEE WHAT A FREAKING SURPRISE - Martina McBride.

Ugh. This song reminds me of Sean Hannity. That's NOT a good thing. Her voice sounds strained on the high notes. She looks stiff and scared. I despise this song. She's ok, though. In comparison to the rest tonight. Ok, fine. She was good. I just really don't like the song.

Tonight sucks donkey balls.

---

Scott up next. Maybe he'll do some Vanilla ICe.

AAAAAAAAAAH. He is AWFUL. Someone stab my eardrum with a Q-tip please. Least. Enjoyable. Performance. Ever. Scott needs to go home. And Paula needs to get sober. She needs an intervention.

--

Did he just say Vonzell is going to do Right Said Fred??? That would ROCK. Just for the novelty of someone doing something so different.

I like this stupid lime Coke commercial.

---

Vonzell.
Another safe song.

Go, Vonzell!! She has totally inched her way up to one of my favorites. She's more comfortable than she was in the beginning and it shows in her voice. That was my favorite performance of the night. Beautiful.

We're voting for Vonzell tonight.

How sick am I of Seinfeld? They need to change the lineup. Ick.

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 07:57 PM

Whoa...out of control SEGUE...!!!!

Posted by: Sekimori at March 29, 2005 07:58 PM

No, no, no! Seinfeld is on here in NY at 7:30. ;)

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 07:59 PM

I knew what you meant, Faith. Uncle Leo, again.

Posted by: michele at March 29, 2005 08:01 PM

Bo's pretty much note-perfect, but the backup singers were *awful* :)

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:05 PM

Didn't do it for me like before. It was the song, I know it was the song.

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:05 PM

Not too good, didn't like the Pimp hat either

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:05 PM

It was good, but for Bo, at this point that's kind of a safe performance. We already know he can do that sort of thing.

Posted by: Sekimori at March 29, 2005 08:08 PM

Good point about people maybe not knowing the song well enough. Not that this will surprise you, but I don't know it. That definitely influences my opinion. I much more enjoy a song I know, even if it's done badly, because I have the ability to tell the difference.

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:11 PM

Not a Crowes fan... *slaps forehead* Amorica was brilliant.

Posted by: Sekimori at March 29, 2005 08:11 PM

I'm torn. I thought the problem was my sound until Simon gave his vote. There was some kind of disconnect between the singer and the music, to me.

And Seinfeld's on here, too.

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 08:12 PM

Jessica: yawn.

Is she totally flat, or is my sound actually screwed up?

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 08:13 PM

Was that a glitch by the band? Jessie sounds good, i like the look too, very sexy!

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:13 PM

Eh, that was boring.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:13 PM

Go Simon. You're absolutely right. She's a squat toad and you wouldn't slap her with a wet herring.

Posted by: Sekimori at March 29, 2005 08:14 PM

Anwar has officially begun to bore me.

Posted by: Sekimori at March 29, 2005 08:16 PM

Is it me or is Anwar majorly slipping?

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:16 PM

Very nasal, Anwar, what's with that?

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:16 PM

OKay then, definitely not me. ;)

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:16 PM

I flat-out hate this song. Anwar's in danger of getting chucked into the Federov bin for me.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:17 PM

That was beautiful. And I hate that song.

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 08:17 PM

Is Paula WASTED???

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:18 PM

I'm so disappointed in Anwar's performance. I know he's much better than that.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 29, 2005 08:19 PM

Is Paula ever not wasted?

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:19 PM

Wow, you guys, really? Ok, I agree with Simon, the beginning was lame, but I love his voice, and I think he pulled it off.

Hideous song choice, tho.

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 08:20 PM

Tanya: I don't think it was a bad performance per se, but I expect a lot more from Anwar after the nearly flawless "It's A Wonderful World" a few weeks ago.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:23 PM

Bravo Nadia!!! EXCELLENT song choice to boot.

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:25 PM

Hmm, not bad--kinda Tina Turner-ish spin on the ME tune--Still hot looking, despite the hair--

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:25 PM

Yeah, there's something going on with the sound--

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:26 PM

Great song for Nadia, good performance, and she's still really cute :-)

Michele: it's not just you. I'm watching on my home theatre and the band on the back speakers is overpowering the singers in front. Horrible mix.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:26 PM

Someone kill Constantine. Please. I'll pay you a buck fitty.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 29, 2005 08:27 PM

Is he kidding?!?!?!?!?!! Fucking bad karaoke song if ever there was one.

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:27 PM

This is just awful.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:28 PM

I'm afraid to even read the comments on Nadia. I loved it. Perfect mix of stomp + voice. (I love her voice)

Constantine: Last call slow dance song on a cruise ship.

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 08:28 PM

OK, if I was a chick, I would be soaking wet after Constantine's performance. I don't like him but he did great

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:29 PM

Randi's HIGH

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:29 PM

Paula: Smarmy Eyes... This was (*hic*) you're best perfo (*hic*) or (*hic*) mance by far. Pass (*hic*) me another (*hic*) Martini... *passes out*

Posted by: nastybastard at March 29, 2005 08:30 PM

I think it's easier to make a song your own, if it came out before you were born.

Nadia's the only one tonight so far who tried to sing their song differently from the original. And that's why Anwar's 'Wonderful World' and Nadia's 'Tenderness' were so amazing, because they didn't listen to the orignals every f'in 15 minutes on the radio, and we able to make them unique.

With 90s songs, that's almost impossible.

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 08:33 PM

I'm disappointed in Bo tonight, Jessica impressed me to some degree, Nadia blew me away, Constantine made me leave the room.

And Anwar...well, he was so forgettable, I forgot about him till I scrolled up to make sure I got everyone.

Paula needs to be put to sleep. Nice and painlessly. Give her the mercy she refuses to give us.

Posted by: kat at March 29, 2005 08:34 PM

Please help, I'm impressed with Nikko for a second week.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:36 PM

Dunno this song either, but that was pretty good, especially for Nikko.

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:36 PM

Oh gawd, here comes Paula slurping away

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:36 PM

Ok, now I know my sound's screwy. They can't all be this far off. I could tell from watching his confidence that he was doing really well, but it sounded like... he didn't know the words.

Please, someone do Nirvana? I'm tired of the ballads.

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 08:38 PM

Ew. He steal Seacrests metrosexual wardrobe? Boring song

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:38 PM

Anthony doesn't suck. What's going on here?!

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:39 PM

I need really serious help now, because I enjoyed that.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:39 PM

Oh sorry. Did Federov just sing?

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 08:40 PM

I'm really not liking any of them tonight. All of them have been just OK for me.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 29, 2005 08:41 PM

Paula looks absolutely wasted. Three vicodins and a wine cooler wasted. Anybody else noticing this?

Posted by: Paul at March 29, 2005 08:42 PM

Can we go on a crusade to silence the people who put together the song lists?

They suck.

Posted by: kat at March 29, 2005 08:43 PM

I agree. I'd love to see one of them to at least do Nirvana.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 29, 2005 08:43 PM

Constantine is an evil freaking genius. The Partridge Family thing last week was no fluke. He figured out there's a zillion teen votes awaiting the next David Cassidy. Tonight sealed it. Evil. Freaking. Genius.

And I liked Nikko too. Which means he's in the bottom three for sure.

Posted by: Doug at March 29, 2005 08:44 PM

Country song. Whatta surprise. How about some excitement, folks?

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:46 PM

Carrie's got some great pipes - I don't like that song a lot, but it requires some range and she hit it spot-on.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:46 PM

It's really hard for me to judge country, but I think that rocked. And she looks fabulous.

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 08:47 PM

Heh, odd jobs in food joints!

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:47 PM

I like Carrie, but Randy saying that was the best vocal of the night is hardly a compliment with this evenings performances.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 29, 2005 08:48 PM

Please tell me this is Scott's last week.

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:49 PM

OK, I'm crankin some Cowboy Mouth REAL LOUD!!

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:49 PM

Scott was somewhere between boring and offensive.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:49 PM

I hate to say this, but I think Scott is gone.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 29, 2005 08:50 PM

So how many highballs did Paula have before the show? She looks totally wasted.

Posted by: JohnO at March 29, 2005 08:50 PM

WTF is wrong with Paula? Seriously.

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:50 PM

Hah, go Simon!

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:50 PM

*yawn*

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 08:50 PM

Paula is messed. up. When she closed her eyes and started swaying, I thought she was going to drop off the side of the chair. What is in that cup?!

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 08:52 PM

Jenny says turn off the radio
Jenny says turn off the lights
Jenny says turn off the video
You beat yourself up to bring yourself down

Let it go, let it go, let it go,
Let it go, let it go, let it go
When the world is coming down on me
I let it go!

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:52 PM

Scott is usually pretty good when you close your eyes. He lost that tonight. Goodbye Scott.

Posted by: Doug at March 29, 2005 08:53 PM

Matty, you smokin' the same crap as Paula tonight?

Posted by: michele at March 29, 2005 08:54 PM

YUMMY! Vonzell, baby, I could just EAT YOU UP

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:54 PM

I think that's a yes, although I like that Cowboy Mouth song too.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:55 PM

Gotta give Vonzell this much, she's actually pulling it off.

Matty, if we get you some batteries will you calm down?

Posted by: Faith at March 29, 2005 08:55 PM

Sorry, got bored, and hadda crank up some loud rowdy music---Vonzell is very edible, but this song is as BORRRRING as the rest of them

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:56 PM

Wow. Vonzell really impressed me.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 08:56 PM

Paula have any braincells left?

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:57 PM

Matt. Dude. Put the snake back in the pants.

Posted by: michele at March 29, 2005 08:57 PM

Ok, Nadia did best tonite, I think, which isn't saying much.

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 08:59 PM

I just can't bring myself to like Vonzell.

Posted by: kat at March 29, 2005 09:00 PM

Vonzell (my vote), then Nadia, then Carrie/Bo (tie).

Posted by: Ian S. at March 29, 2005 09:00 PM

Aw, c'mon, where else can I be a filthy minded wannabe perv ;-) Back to the old ball-n-ch---OWWWW

Posted by: Matty at March 29, 2005 09:01 PM

Hate the jherri curl, and the that's the most unflattering dress ever, but she sounded great.

Nice orange suit and pink hat on the dad, too.

Posted by: Tanya at March 29, 2005 09:03 PM

alright folks, here's the deal:
as far as the guys go, nikko is ok. he can sing a little, and he's a hottie, but that's all. the rockers are not entertaining (constantine gets this crazy look in his eye that is just freaky); the clay aiken wannabe is gross and just can't sing; the guy with the hair is cute, but he can't sing; and since when is it cool to be the chubby pasty kid with glasses?
carrie is the best idol i've seen. she's beautiful, hits every note, and makes every song look so easy! she should win, followed by nadia and maybe jessica if she weren't so...um...i just can't put my finger on it. she can sing, but i'm still not crazy about her.
i hate to be so sexist, but the guy vocals just aren't there!

Posted by: Ellen at March 29, 2005 09:43 PM

Thanks for clearing that up for us.

Posted by: Sekimori at March 29, 2005 09:54 PM

dude. did anyone else notice Scott's weird wee tiny mustache? forget the singing for a moment; that's just one of the lamest things I've ever seen.

I'm also convinced that somebody replaced Vonzell with a robot. looks, voice... that is not the same Vonzell as three weeks ago. wow.

Nadia did pretty damned well, too.

first thing I thought when Federov popped on screen? "dude. St. Patrick's Day was last week."

aside from Vonzell and Nadia, I thought everyone was kinda bleh. goodbye, Scott.

Posted by: mikey at March 30, 2005 12:10 AM

I thought Carrie and Constantine did the best, I hope Scott or Nadia go home. I can't stand another week of watching these two idols, they are both scary looking when they sing!

Posted by: jeni at March 30, 2005 09:01 AM

Bo, not his best but still freaking fantastic and fun. Constantine did it right for the second week in a row. So I can't remember what anyone else sang that's how goddam boring they all were. But I do remember and thank Simon for telling freaking NO NECK how Unlikeable she is. HA! And my God, I humbly beseech thee to please make this Scott the Serial Killer's last week. Amen

Posted by: jen at March 30, 2005 09:41 AM

Bo is still my favorite, but I did not like the hat, either. And I agree that his performance was "safe," but I like watching him perform anyway. I agree with Simon about Jessica: she can sing, but she's not as likable as other contestants. Not an "American Idol" in my book; not enough showmanship or 'X' factor. Anthony can definitely sing, but he just annoys me. He's too smug, or something. I don't think anyone really wants another Clay Aiken in this competition. Nikko is just okay for me; I don't think he's as good as the others and he will probably be booted off soon. I agree about Anwar: he started off strong at the beginning of the competition, but he's getting "weaker" with each performance. What a disappointment! Scott is SUCH A DOWNER!!! With his demeanor, song choice, everything!! I think he will get eliminated tonight. I think Carrie had the best performance of the evening (but she needs to stay the f*ck away from Bo!!!!), and I also really like Nadia and Vonzell. Constantine is hot. He's not the best singer, but he is getting the teenybopper vote, hands down! I actually really liked his performance last night.

Posted by: Janet at March 30, 2005 09:42 AM

you liked anthony but didn't like constantine... something is wrong with your judgement.

Posted by: tony at March 30, 2005 12:42 PM

Or yours. Eh?

Posted by: michele at March 30, 2005 12:43 PM

24 hours, eh, Michele?

Posted by: Sekimori at March 30, 2005 12:58 PM

Anthony's alright. At least he has a good voice and he's decent to look at, even with that hole in his throat. Looking and listening to Jessica and Scott perform is sheer unadulterated torture. Bo has it all, talent and stage presence. Constantine has personality and stage presence. Anwar, darling, please liven it up, you're getting rather boooooring.

Posted by: jen at March 30, 2005 01:11 PM
