And Then There Were 12

By Michele

Are you ready for some Idol? We'll be here at 8pm EST, bringing you live snark and derision.

And I'm not going to be bothered speculating about Mario. He's gone. Let's move on and concentrate on the 12 that are here. But say, wouldn't it be kind of funny if Nikko was the first of the 12 to get voted off?

---

Yea, yea. THe new set is nice.

Well at least they're not treating us like total idiots and they said something about Mario.

And tonight's theme is: The 60's I love the themes. Makes the kids stretch a bit.

Jessica is up first, doing Shop Around

Either my digital cable is messing up, or the sync is off on the sound.

She's really nothing special. Didn't thrill me, didn't make me hate her. Just...average. Not, say, top 5 material.

---

Anwar up next, singing This House is Not a Home. Tymara (sp) sang this first season. So my daughter tells me.

Not a great song choice for Anwar. I thought he'd choose something more..peppy. My least favorite Anwar performance so far.

These people should know by now that Simon likes risk takers.

----
Mikalah, my least favorite person, doing Son of a Preacher Man.

She has totally changed her look. TOTALLY. Her best performance yet, but that's not saying much. Gone is the nasally tone, the frumpy look...but I still can't like her. Still, depsite improvement, nothing special. Ugh, must she talk?

---

Constantine doing You Make Me So Very Happy.

This is the best his voice has sounded, but he still has that Daffy Duck sort of speech impedement. And he's just so damn smarmy. Eh. Go home, Connie.

---
Lindsey doing Knock on Wood. (I love the disco version of this song)

She has done NOTHING for me this entire competition and she is keeping that streak going right now. Tries too hard to get that deep effect to her voice.

---
Anthony doing Breaking Up is Hard to Do

Do I like anyone in this competition? Anthony is another one who's just like a wet rag.

This isn't bad though....For me, this was his most impressive performance.

And now Randy brings out the "hotel" cliche. I guess if I didn't like Anthony all along, it didn't take much for me to think he sounded good. He's not finalist material, but he didn't embarass himself.

---

Nadia doing You Don't Have to Say You Love Me - good choice, I think.

She is sssssmokin. Wow. Stellar peformance. Flawless.

Hamburgers? Hahaha. Oh, Simon. You are such a walking cliche.

---
Bo doing Spinning Wheel.

Good choice. I like him. I really like him. He's got....something going on. Something good.

---

Vonzell singing Anyone Who Had a Heart

This song is beyond her reach. She just doesn't have it.

Nadia and Bo make this show worth watching. Everyone else is just filler.

--
Scott, doing Ain't Too Proud to Beg. Gee, how original.

Scott does NOT belong here. He's got all the charisma of Napoleon Dynamite in that dance scene. Are his eyes open or closed? Ok, it ws TERRIBLE, but he's got NO personality.

Mostly in tune? I can't believe Randy gave him props for that. At this point in the competition, shouldn't he be ALL in tune?

---

Carrie "Thank god I'm a country girl" Underwood doing When Will I Be Loved.

She really needs to get out of the country rut. Stretch it Carrie. Show us you can do something else. I'm finding her rather...average. The audience apparently finds something more.

---

Replacement man Nikko up, doing I Want You Back

Buh bye, Nikko. Back where you were just two days ago. Sorry for teasing you like this.

Ok, maybe it's just me. Everyone seems to adore this guy, I don't see anything special about him.

Yes, thank you, Simon.

---
And that's it for tonight. My daughter is voting for Constantine. I'm putting a call in for Bo to negate her rocker vote. Heh.

Y'all come back tomorrow for the results show. I'll make my prediction before the show starts, but I'm looking at you, Jessica.

Comments

Not funny...appropriate.

Here we go!

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:02 PM

Nikko *should* be first to go, but in a mixed-gender environment I think he could make it another week.

Yikes, Seacrest is actually mentioning the Mario thing!

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:02 PM

OK Jessica sucked. And the music is too loud for the singing.

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:06 PM

Jessica: boring. Simon got her number.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:06 PM

That was not fabulous Anwar, I'm disappointed.

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:09 PM

Terrible song choice, not Anwar's best performance.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:10 PM

And I so love Anwar... he needs to change it up a little bit. Definitely not his best.

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:12 PM

I really can't wait for Bo now.

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:13 PM

Oh, no. Hasn't "Son of a Preacher Man" been sung to death on this show?

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:14 PM

I hate to say I'm impressed.

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:15 PM

Mikalah sucks. And not in the good way.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:16 PM

She's still way too Fran Drescher

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:17 PM

I'm rooting for Anwar. I really want Mikalah and Constantine to be voted off, but I'm not holding my breath.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 15, 2005 08:17 PM

First, Mikalah looked great tonight; as to the song, I've figured it out: if she NEVER sings a word ending in "er", she'd be really good.

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:17 PM

OK this song just shows how much Constantine doesn't have a good voice.

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:17 PM

It pains me to say that Constantine didn't suck tonight. It literally pains me.

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:18 PM

I'm with Faith: this song was way beyond his capability.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:19 PM

As much as I don't like Constantine, I do have to say that is the best his voice has sounded (to me) in the entire competition.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 15, 2005 08:20 PM

Ian, I have to clarify: it pains me to say that Constantine didn't suck *if you compare this to all his other performances.* I still hate him. :-)

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:21 PM

I did not realize until tonight that it was possible to Jersey up "Son of a Preacher Man"...

Posted by: robyn at March 15, 2005 08:23 PM

I thought Constantine sounded great. The best so far tonight. I may have to commit seppuku.

Posted by: Tanya at March 15, 2005 08:24 PM

ROFL Robyn!

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:24 PM

Poor Lindsay. That was just terrible.

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:26 PM

Kathleen: I understand :-)

As for Lindsey, she's been kinda "blah" the whole time, and she didn't change that.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:26 PM

OK, who voluntarily chooses Neil Sedaka?!?!

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:26 PM

Here is the short version of just about every performance tonight.

Simon: I don't know dog, it just wasn't that good for me.
Paula: You look beautiful tonight. You did great. Did I mention you look beautiful?
Simon: You should be tarred and feathered for that performance.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 15, 2005 08:27 PM

Federov also voluntarily chose Richard Marx.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:27 PM

Holy crap. The judges are saying something new tonight.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 15, 2005 08:29 PM

Wow. The judges took their unhappy pills tonight. I actually thought Federov gave one of his better performances tonight - and I don't even like that song. Go figure.

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:29 PM

Whoa, Randy unleaches the nasty. My thought: it was *technically* nearly flawless, but there was no feeling to it.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:29 PM

Did you guys have the sound turned up on your TV for Anthony? He was out of tune on at least a third of that song!

Posted by: Amanda at March 15, 2005 08:31 PM

I didn't care for this next contestant... oh wait, it was an Old Navy commercial.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 15, 2005 08:32 PM

Despite Federov's awesome voice, he should get kicked off just for not following directions. They tell him every week to stop singing ballads, and he keeps doing it. And now a half-speed version of an already slow song. Yaaaawn.

Posted by: Tanya at March 15, 2005 08:33 PM

Nadia, you go girl!

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:34 PM

I like Nadia a lot, but I like her best when she is doing the more upbeat songs.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 15, 2005 08:35 PM

Fantastic. Nadia did great. And she's so cute :)

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:36 PM

Huh. I didn't love Nadia tonight. And yet the judges did. Odd.

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:36 PM

Hey, Simon joined into the Eat An Animal For PETA Day!

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:36 PM

I'd never thought Nadia was overly great...nice voice, but I have to say she did an awesome job!

Posted by: ReaderMom at March 15, 2005 08:37 PM

Funny .. I'm here in the west coast and am reading your comments .. now I know what to expect when I watch it tonight. Hella Cool! Thanks. :o)

Posted by: Lisa at March 15, 2005 08:37 PM

Bo was cool, but not his best.

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:38 PM

I like Bo. Great song.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 15, 2005 08:38 PM

I thought Bo did a great job once again. Has he given a bad performance yet?

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:38 PM

Good song, nice vocal, great performance. Go Bo!

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:39 PM

Hey, group... should we torment Lisa with scandalous tidbits that don't actually happen? You know, just so she'll be surprised? ;-)

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:39 PM

Thank god for Nadia and Bo.

Posted by: Tanya at March 15, 2005 08:40 PM

Bo *brought* it. That was outstanding.

Posted by: Broken Fiction at March 15, 2005 08:40 PM

Kathleen, you mean like how Mikalah fell on her butt?

Posted by: ReaderMom at March 15, 2005 08:41 PM

Kathleen: I couldn't believe it when Simon called Paula a "Prozac ho".

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:42 PM

Nadia & Bo rocked..... that boy made that song his..

Posted by: Diane at March 15, 2005 08:42 PM

Daaaaamn! Nadia and Bo just schooled everyone else. Toss in Anwar, who just picked a goofy song tonight, and that's the real competition. The rest can leave now. Please.

I especially liked it that Bo picked a BS&T song just like Constantine. Compare and contrast. One totally rocks, and the other just poses and makes moony eyes at the camera while trying to stay in tune. If you have to ask which one you suck.

Posted by: Doug at March 15, 2005 08:42 PM

Ian: ROFL!

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:44 PM

Does anyone know if you can buy Vonzell's ass on eBay? Anyone?

Posted by: robyn at March 15, 2005 08:45 PM

Doug, lol @ moony eyes. I thought the same thing.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 15, 2005 08:45 PM

Sounds like Vonzelle is straining...ouch on that last note!

Posted by: ReaderMom at March 15, 2005 08:45 PM

Vonzell looks great tonight; I thought she did a fair job on a really hard song, but that last note was *so* off-key.

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:46 PM

I'm sorry, but I just love Scott Savol, Deliverance face, bad wardrobe and all. I think he's got a terrific voice.

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:48 PM

Anwar, Bo, and Nadia are the only ones that matter.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:48 PM

Keepig my eyes closed while he was singing, he wasn't so bad. But the ghetto thing HAS to go.

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:48 PM

Absolutely Ian.

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:49 PM

Kathleen, I agree with you on Scott. I like his voice.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 15, 2005 08:49 PM

Scott's an Ohio boy, so I like him just because of that, but he did a really great job tonight.

Posted by: ReaderMom at March 15, 2005 08:50 PM

I thought Scott sounded great, but the fact that he has a son just makes me picture him having sex...shudder

Posted by: Amanda at March 15, 2005 08:51 PM

Oh, I forgot about Carrie Underwood. I like her voice, but I don't like this performance much, though.

Posted by: nastybastard at March 15, 2005 08:53 PM

I used to like Carrie, but she seems to have gone downhill lately. This was very "pitchy".

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:54 PM

I agree, Bastard. She's been a tad weak the past few weeks. And this is a song that no one but Linda Ronstadt should ever sing. Period.

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:54 PM

Holy crap. Did Paul actually call someone boring, and did Simon say something nice? Is this some kind of role reversal?

Posted by: nastybastard at March 15, 2005 08:55 PM

it's nice that nikko has a sense of irony. he still sucks.

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:56 PM

Ok, nice to have you back Nikko, now leave again.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 15, 2005 08:56 PM

Oh, no, Nikko. The performance was bad to begin with; adding the compulsive grabbing of the equipment just put it over the top. And I *liked* you before!

Posted by: Kathleen at March 15, 2005 08:56 PM

Nikko...boy, pull up your pants!

Posted by: ReaderMom at March 15, 2005 08:57 PM

I miss George Huff

Posted by: Faith at March 15, 2005 08:57 PM

This whole season is just "blah"... the people and the songs, both.

Posted by: Mike at March 15, 2005 09:02 PM

Me too, Faith.

Posted by: Tanya at March 15, 2005 09:04 PM

Jessica - love that song and I thought she did it admirably

Mikhala - please please please just go away. She ruined a fabulous song.

Bo - if he wins the competition I may have to buy an American Idol album for the first time.

I still have a soft spot for Carrie and I thought she did a good job with the song. Maybe a bit tentative, but her voice is fine - no breaking glass.

Still wishing we could replace Paula.

Posted by: Jeannine at March 15, 2005 09:09 PM

I love you Michele. I never once thought I'd find someone who could sum up my feelings so well: Go home, Connie.

You are teh r0x0r.

Posted by: Gabe at March 15, 2005 09:12 PM

Readermom,
Mikalah falls on her butt .. really?! I almost can't wait to see the show for that ... it's on in 30 minutes here. Don't tell me anymore though .. am already anticipating seeing Anwar "not do very well" and Scott "do okay" and Vonzell "look nice" .. and of course, see Mikalah fall on her butt, if she does. Thanks again for the Pre-Show entertainment. :o)

Posted by: Lisa at March 15, 2005 10:34 PM

hi,

Constantine really surprised me tonight. He did really well and according to me his voice changed a lil' bit. But I still think Anwar is going t win.

Leaving:
Anthony or Lindsey or Scott or Nikko

Posted by: LuverUvAmericanIdol at March 16, 2005 12:58 AM

Anwar sung a complicated song. I didn't think it was his worst but he is an excellent singer and can pull off almost anything.

Bo is my man all the way. True to the game.

Nadia FINALLY sung the way I thought she could sing. Much love.

Constantine represented well (for a change).

But I agree with Ian S., Anwar, Bo, and Nadia all the way.

Posted by: Solomon at March 16, 2005 08:43 AM

I have to agree with Solomon--Anwar sang a complicated song (and quite well, IMO) and he should be able to sing pretty much anything.

I'm curious what others think "taking a risk" means. I felt Anwar did so; he picked a song less well-known than the others. Should he have sung something by Alvin and the Chipmunks or the Archies? Seriously--what constitutes "taking a risk"?

Posted by: Victor at March 16, 2005 08:53 AM

I can't believe you don't like Scott. I think he sings great. Yeah he is a little short on personality, but I am always impressed with his singing and control.

Bo = good as always, heads on favorite right now.
Vonzell = beautiful, though her voice wasn't as strong as it needed to be.
Mikalah = I'd like to do naughty things to that little girl as long as she didn't speak.
Nikko = gotta go
Lindsey = why are you still here?
Constantine = thank god for girls cause no guys are voting for you
Jessica = roll that juicy little body over here and sing to me
Nadia = keep it comin girl

Posted by: Scott at March 16, 2005 11:43 AM

No offense Scott, but you creep me out.

Posted by: michele at March 16, 2005 11:45 AM

I think I learned something From the old days of "Star Search"

the singers that won every week were the ones that picked socks that rocked, were loud, got people off their buts and making some noise

I find it hard to believe the sappy songs some of these people choose to sing each week and still hope to win

BO, obviously is the leading singer to win this thing, he keeps picking songs that "kick ass" and get people standing, when he took off from the stage and went into the crowd and went up on the other stage behind the judges, I knew he would win this thing

It is too bad they dont report who gets the most votes each week because I know that performance had to get BO the most last week.

I am also sure the other singers saw him and hated the fact that they were too meek in comparison and some I bet hated the fact they didnt think of leaving the stage first and also.
