3/7 Boys Night Out

By Michele

You can read my take on Bo v. Constantine here.

Scott's up first and he's doing one of those "safe" songs. If I had a dollar for every contestant that did this song over the years, I would be out for a steak dinner and not here.

That was LAME. It's all downhill from here, Scott.

Oh come ON, guys. At this point in the show, you should not be singing Sugar Pie Honey Bunch. Sorry. Next.

---
It's Bo Bice time. He has a lot to live up to.

Hmmm, ballad? What is this song?

Well, his voice sounds great and he's showing his range, which is I suppose what it's all about. I really have come to like Bo. His voice is smooth and he has a great stage presence.

On review, that was pretty damn awesome.

----

Anthony Federov.

HAHAHA when he first said BABY, I thought he was doing the theme song from WKRP in Cincinatti.

What is that thing on his jacket? And why do I close my eyes and think I'm in some Miami Vice decorated club in the 80's and George Michael is on the jukebox and we're all yawning?

I'm sorry Paula and Dawg man, I think he's just white bread bland.

Oh and SNAP by Simon! The Wiggles!

Ok, I'll give Anthony props. It wasn't horrible. But it was not winning material either. I think he did buy himself another week, though.

---
Ok. Several weeks into this thing, I'm just about ready to hunt Hootie down, chop him up and serve him at the BK drive thru window.
--

Nikko Smith doing Georgia. This could be a mistake.

You've got have power and emotion to pull this song off. He has neither. At the part where he should have powered up, he changed the key.

Ok, hit hit the last notes, but I still think he's going home this week.

Oh PLEASE. Randy is falling all over him. It wasn't wonderful. It was OK. And OK does not win this competition.

---

I'm really sick of Constantine's mug.

--
Travis up now. Bobby Brown?

Well this is different, that's for sure. Kudos for him for going out on a limb like this.

I like him in spite of myself. I think he's got a nice stage presence, a smooth voice. He's not making me scream, but I like. Not finalist material, but good for another week or two.

Simon was a bit harsh on him. And he's got to stop trying to come up with clever comparisons.

---

Mario coming up. He's got to do something really horrendous to disappoint at this juncture.

I like this song. Let's see what he does with it.

He is SMOOOOOTH. He's not really reaching, not extending himself, and he's still sounding good. And looking good.

HOWEVER. I think that the finals will be very interesting. Bo could really challenge Mario for that last spot next to Anwwar (just a little predicting there).

---

Constantine and Anwar next. At this point (this very second) I can't imagine anyone but Anwar winning the whole thing. I'm anxious to see what Constantine pulls out of his hat tonight. Will he rock? Will he croon? Will he SUCK?

OH my goodness. He's doing THE POLICE. He needed to come out and ROCK tonight.

Wow. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG CHOICE. I feel like I'm watching a high school talent show.

Suck it, Constantine. You're going home.

Ok, Randy's out of his fucking mind. Is it me? Am I just imagining the suckitude of that performance?

Go, Simon! Go, Simon! At least someone on that show isn't doing crack in between takes.
----

Last but not least, Anwar. No matter what he does tonight, he's safe.

Nice song choice. Weird arrangement. Nice performance. Very, very nice. The man is a star. He's got it ALL going on. Everything. He's going to have to kill a kitten on stage at this point to not win it.

And that's it for tonight. Looks like Anwar is still the favorite. I'm looking at Scott and Constantine going home this week. If not Constantine, Nikko.

See you for the girls tomorrow night.

Go Bo!

Scott, not his best at all. And why pick this song that was so oversang in the initial rounds?

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:06 PM

I'm tired of this song from the group competition, but Scott did a great job with it anyway.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 7, 2005 08:06 PM

I think he did an adequate job. Which isn't good enough this far in.

Posted by: michele at March 7, 2005 08:09 PM

Dear god, did I just hear a commercial talking about Ashlee Simpson "blowing"?

Posted by: Ian S. at March 7, 2005 08:10 PM

OMG, I'm in love with Bo. I can't believe I hated him so much going into this. Mea culpa!

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:13 PM

Not recognizing the song, but Bo is awesome.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 7, 2005 08:15 PM

How do you guys not know that song?? It was overplayed for one of those Fox Teeniebobber shows a while back. I love that song.

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:15 PM

Wow. I *hated* Federov the last 2 weeks, but I'm liking this.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 7, 2005 08:18 PM

LOl Mich, I did too! He's certainly stepped it up. Do we get to make new picks after the top 12 are picked? I majorly need to revise mine.

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:18 PM

The Wiggles?!?!?!!? ROFL -- scary -- he's right, and I've seen them live in concert (Don't ask)

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:20 PM

Simon is the roxor. But, and maybe I just had really low expectations after the ritual murders of Richard Marx and Lou Gramm, I still thought Anthony was much improved (not displacing Bo/Anwar/Mario though).

Posted by: Ian S. at March 7, 2005 08:23 PM

Nikko, way way too ambitious song.

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:26 PM

What type of dipping sauce goes with a Hootie?

Posted by: JohnO at March 7, 2005 08:26 PM

OK this officially sucks. It's the male equivalent of singing Celine or Whitney. No way.

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:26 PM

I almost went into convulsions when Bo started McCain's "I'll Be..." As a wedding site owner, I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate (did I mention that I hate) that overplayed piece of crap. He did a good job with it all things considered. But now my "morning" sickness is back having to endure that tune one more time.

Posted by: robyn at March 7, 2005 08:26 PM

Dear Nikko: you are not and never will be Ray Charles. That is all.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 7, 2005 08:26 PM

Can't we ge4t rid of Travis already?

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:34 PM

I'm trying to hate this, but it's not working. Nice job, Travis.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 7, 2005 08:35 PM

I bit loungy, but I like it.

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:39 PM

I was initially concerned that Mario wasn't "being himself", but he's doing great. Another awesome job.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 7, 2005 08:40 PM

Hmmmm...I like Mario, he's creamy. Go Anwar. Whoooooooooooooooooo!

Posted by: Mulder at March 7, 2005 08:44 PM

I do love Anwar.

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:45 PM

Bad bad Constantine. Yuck.

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:47 PM

Yeah, he's from around my area, and he's cute and teachery, yea...that's not a word. This song sounds alien coming out of Constantine's mouth. Yep.

Posted by: Mulder at March 7, 2005 08:47 PM

I like the Police a lot, but this is just not right.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 7, 2005 08:48 PM

Yuck! Anyway, I think I like Bo better than Constantine, I used to like Constantine better. Oh well.

Posted by: Mulder at March 7, 2005 08:49 PM

Yeah Simon!

Posted by: Ian S. at March 7, 2005 08:49 PM

You're not crazy--my hubby and I both agree that was Constantine's worst showing. And we both used to be Constantine fans.

Posted by: Amanda at March 7, 2005 08:51 PM

Good, at least it's not just me. Commercials are boring, yes, yes they are.

Posted by: Mulder at March 7, 2005 08:53 PM

And why do most of these boys have the Taurus sign, it's odd. Coincidence? I think not.

Posted by: Mulder at March 7, 2005 08:54 PM

OK Anwar, THAT's the way to do a classic. WOO HOO!

Posted by: Faith at March 7, 2005 08:54 PM

Anwar is The Man. End the competition right now, he wins.

Posted by: Ian S. at March 7, 2005 08:55 PM

I wonder who's going home. If it's Anwar, I'll cry, it would be an injustice.

Posted by: Mulder at March 7, 2005 08:59 PM

Bo was awesome again tonight. He's my idol!

Posted by: burton at March 7, 2005 09:11 PM

If I took a dump on a paper plate and handed it to Paula, she'd say something like.."By far this is your best performance ever! You showed so much range and emotion..you have the presense of a star! Bravo!" Clearly she is 'whack' dawg. Thank God for Simon keeping it 'real' dawg. Word.

I'm hoping Bo makes it all the way, he is my favorite. Didn't care much for tonights song though.

Posted by: Randy at March 7, 2005 09:12 PM

No way, Michele. Good-bye Travis and Constantine, if there's any justice in the world.

Posted by: CraigC at March 8, 2005 12:04 AM

HOTTIEZ

Posted by: CraigC at March 8, 2005 01:13 AM

i'm shooting for travis and scott this week - constantine has a massive fan base for some stupid reason. did anyone else think it was hilarious when ryan said "thanks for not saying ASS"? my boyfriend and i laughed our tails off on that one, especially since it followed the "wiggles" comment by simon. last night's show was really entertaining for me.

Posted by: tiffany at March 8, 2005 09:33 AM

While Constantine's performance wasn't the best out of his past performances, I still have some faith left in him. Aside that, he has a large fanbase, so I think he's safe for a little bit. And also, there were people who sing far worse than he has been.

My hopes are that Nikko and Travis go home. I especially didn't like that Ray Charles impersonation last night, what was that? Paula and Randy clearly have favorites and for the absolute wrong reasons, in my opinion. We all have favorites but let's be honest here.. that performance was not very good. It was way too ambitious for him. And he only sang it because he wanted to try to get the sympathy vote.. ("Aw, he sang Ray Charles.. what a nice tribute. Honey, where's the phone?") again, in my opinion.

And Travis.. ew. Just.. ew. My predictions go to Nikko and Travis this week. Let's hope America feels the same way.

Oh, and one more thing. That "Wiggles" comment absolutely made my night. I could see Federov dancing around in a purple shirt singing about spaghetti.

Posted by: Nikki at March 8, 2005 04:23 PM

Please--isn't there anyone out there besides me who absolutely hates Bo Bice? I know he's a decent rocker, but the American Idol? I don't think so!

He has a powerful voice, but it is rough and nasal, and sometimes you can't understand his words. And, off-stage, his personality leaves something to be desired...

Go Anwar--that's my idea of an American Idol--he has a beautiful voice and understands the power of music to bring peace to the world.

I'm feeling very alone in my viewpoint...

Posted by: Karen at March 8, 2005 05:56 PM

I understand the power of music to bring piece to the world. Oh wait...

Posted by: Sekimori at March 8, 2005 07:19 PM

Bo is the new AI. He's the only one with true raw talent. and he's pretty charming too!

Posted by: jen at March 9, 2005 04:33 PM

I don't like the blonde norwegian dude. very lame. I think he and bo should go.

Posted by: tony b at March 9, 2005 04:59 PM

Bo & Anwar are the best. They both make you feel great when they sing, and also cause the goose-bumps. All of the girls pale in comparison. I hope it's just the 2 of them fighting it out at the end... it would be great to watch.
