It's Not About The William Hungs
By Faith
I know the early stages of the show are a lot about showcasing the losers, but it's just gone way too far this season. Mary. The plethora of attempts to feature the weirdest of the worst tonite. These people seem fake, affected, in a sub rosa competition to be the next William Hung. Our local news tonite was flashing "evaulating the worst of the worst, who will be the next William Hung" as a lead story. I was too sick to tune in for it.
Not to put too fine a point on the campy fun that is AI, but isn't this about finding GOOD people? The prior season's pre-Hollywood shows seemed at least as focused on the good, if not more so. Now it's this forced freak show trying to replicate the popularity of one guy that's equally admired and reviled. That kind of spontaneous thing can't be replicated, and replicating it is certainly not what AI is supposed to be about.
I, for one, can't wait until this fake crap is over and we can get into the real competition.
While I look forward to the first few episodes and the ridiculousness of some of the contestants, it's been taken to a different level this season. And that's not good. The bad auditions are contrived, for the most part.

i totally agree with michele. a "good" bad singer is just bad (e.g. William Hung). but now, much like the good singers are trying to be the next Ruben Studdard or Fantasia Barrino, most of the bad singers are just trying to be the next William Hung.
and really, think about it. William Hung is probably more famous than either Ruben or Fantasia. that's kinda sad.
something else kinda sad? swear to gawd, i actually saw William Hung "in concert"... at a mall. serious, we got there early, and it was already packed (this was during the height of his popularity). how sad is that?

no kidding. trying to sqeak a few good auditions in with the 45 minutes of "look at me - i wanna be on t.v.!!" crap gets a bit old. mr. baby he's gotchore money's 10 minute block had me off the couch and looking for something to eat rather than endure the unnecessary crap he was rambling on about. i complain, but my ass will be parked for that hour yet again tonight.
