Mary Roach, Superstar?

By Michele

Willingly or not, Mary Roach has become a household word. I'm still of the thinking that Mary is a cunning publicity whore who is putting us on; others believe that Mary is clinically crazy.

Either way, Mary's new found fame may rival that of William Hung, at least in the novelty department. I don't think she'll be appearing on album covers, but I bet she'll be making tv appreances soon. Maybe Dr. Phil, maybe in cartoon form on South Park. Mark my word - Ms. Roach will be ubitquitous until something more interesting happens on Idol. To wit:

Entertainment Weekly - There's Something About Mary
Meet Mary Roach
Mary Roach, American Idol SUPERSTAR!

And, of course, the sure fire sign that you are an internet phenom:

You know, I love American Idol. I really do. But I think we each have to admit that AI has brought upon us some of the worst entertainment figures of the 20th century. Mary Roach is just the latest.

Does she really have that . . . that . . . that modified Dorothy Hamill wedge haircut? I thought that one was finally, irrevocably dead. On the basis of that alone, I would vote "clinically crazy."

I normally work during the hours this show is on, but if she's this bad/good, I might have to have someone record it for me.

But the voices told her to get that haircut.

Hey Michele,
I found this via MSNBC:

Check it out, it's supposedly Mary on the American Idol message board.

I'm just surprised that I haven't seen the headline "Mary, Mary - why you buggin'" yet...

The husband told me today of a rumor that Miss Mary is a ringer, a radio station intern. More on this if it develops...

I KNEW it. The first thing I said to my daughter that night was "I bet she works for a radio station and this is a stunt."

Shoulda put it in writing.

speaking of that haircut...she said in her AI interview that she's going to school to DO HAIR!

Which honestly, just makes it seem more like a stunt, now that I think about it.

She says that if she has to give up her singing career, she might as well being a "lead singer in a rock band". I have heard there are plenty of audition spots left on the INXS/Rock Star thing. She should just keep doing the rounds of reality show auditions until they make one for her.

Mary, or M.C. as we called her in high school doesnt work for a radio station. I was a person who never really believed that AI people were THAT bad and could actually think they were THAT good...but that is M.C. being her trueself. She was always singing in class and trust me--she is the real deal.

The truth is Mary is a very sweet girl and has a lot going for her and had the guts to get up there and do what she did. she may seem a little crazy but it could have been just an act.

Mary has the confidence and "personality" to be atleast a guest, if not a regular on SNL or Mad TV. I wish her the best!

To be AI you have to be something specific. Mary's definitely not that.
I do love her singing though, particularly her exit tune.

if she makes a cd i would listen to her she reminds me well her voice of jewel or alanis morsette and i think its kinda cool.

I liked Mary. We have enough bland, vanilla pop singers as it is. I mean, do we really need another Jessica Simpson? Another Ashlee Simpson? Another Mandy Moore or Britney? I say not just no but hell no. Mary had sauce and zing and she was just crazy enough to be interesting. Sure, I wouldn't want to be in the same room as her and, say, a box of sharp knives, but I'd love to hear her on the radio or see her on a stage.

She's no William Hung - he's just bad. Mary is also crazy, which makes her super special in my book.

Mary Roach. WOW! She really IS just one big comedy sketch combo pack. She looked like some sort of Aryan race experiment gone horribly wrong. Those hip hugger pants covering that no-ass and a belly shirt on a tall lanky girl. Oh baby, who hurt you!? Look out Molly Shannon, Mary Roach takes way-creepy stalker chick to a whole new disturbing level.

I'd say the judges have it all wrong about her. Granted, this is a singing competition, but somebody out there needs to get with her and develop Mary World or something. I'd be willing to guess that the clips that we saw of Mary were probably not heavily edited. I bet they just started rolling and let Mary do her thing. That may be why so many viewers saw her as a potential radio stunt. It all just seemed to flow too easily and that is why I think there is real genius there. Market her as the next new kids show. Not your garden variety kids show, but like a Pee Wee Herman kind of kids show. We haven't had a disturbing icon in awhile and frankly I think we are long overdue. All of the good stuff now seems to be overshadowed by perverted little sleep-overs, adult theater whack-off hijinx, or nut cancer. Let's kick off a new campaign and let Mary Roach be our candidate.
