I wish YES would have NOT rehired Kim Jones, but they did!

They blew it when they sent their best chick into the radio booth with that blowhard Sterling.

I don't believe you're allowed to refer to Suzyn Waldman as a "chick". I think there are both state and federal statutes that apply.

Don't make me alert the authorities.

They got an offense that should win a hell of a lot of 8-6 games, that's what they got.

If Pavano returns to form and the Big Ugly Unit duplicates his post-AllStar break, and you guys get a final decent year out of Mussina, and Wang doesn't regress to the mean and stays healthy and if Wright plays to his pay level and if Farnsworth and Villone can combine to duplicate Gordon's role, you'll be fine.

I'm just going to repost my December 23rd comments regarding this issue...

The pitching staff is very SUSPECT, but that being said, I'd rather take our suspect staff compared to most any other staff.

Starters...

Randy Johnson....Seems like he's at the point in his career, where he's either dialed in, or being slapped around like a two-bit whore. Don't know if you want to chalk it up to adjusting to NY or if he's finally starting to breakdown.

Mike Mussina....I'd like to think he's going to hold up, and he's proven to be the most consistant of the lot. He'll definately eat up some innings so long as he stays healthy.

Shawn Chacon....We'd have been up shit creek without a paddle, so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Let's just remember this; since he was traded at the deadline, we'll have to see how he adjusts to hitters, and hitters adjust to him after seeing him more than just one time around the league.

Chien Ming Wang....Huge, unexpected output from him. Although with Wang missing substantial amount of time due to injury, the same applies as with Chacon as far as teams seeing him more than once.

Carl Pavano....Gut check time for him. He's gonna have to prove himself and the fans that he's got the stomach to pitch in NY. If not, he's likely tradebait at the deadline.

Relievers....

Mariano Rivera....Enough Said!!!

Kyle Farnsworth....Should be solid, and we get younger in the set up role. Definate plus here.

Mike Myers....So long as he can get Ortiz and the other tough lefties out on a consistant basis then that's good enough for me.

Ron Villone....Should be jacked to be coming home, and having a second tough left who's durable will be a huge lift.

Tanyon Sturtze....He needs a bounce back year. I'm not so much disappointed in Tanyon, but hoping he comes back to be trusted by Torre again.

Aaron Small....Long reliever, spot starter. Perfect spot for him.

Jaret Wright....Insert same comments as Pavano.

Final analysis....I'm not all down on the Yankees staff. But to say there aren't any question marks or that they aren't suspect is just looking through rose colored glasses. Like I mentioned before, I'd take this new and improved staff over just about anyone else's staff out there. As the saying goes, they look good on paper, but that's why they play the games on the field. So let's just hope things bounce the right way for us and we can avoid the injury bug, unlike last year, and we should be fine. But until this staff as a whole proves itself on the field, a little healthy skepticism isn't half bad.

Y'know, I'm still working the hangover from last Wednesday's binge.
