Vader Speaks

Enough is enough. I am bitterly disappointed as Iím sure all Yankee fans are by the lack of performance by our team. It is unbelievable to me that the highest-paid team in baseball would start the season in such a deep funk. They are not playing like true Yankees. They have the talent to win and they are not winning. I expect Joe Torre, his complete coaching staff and the team to turn this around.

About time.

Posted by: TC at April 17, 2005 05:14 PM

I'm still trying to figure out how to interpret that "complete coaching staff" bit. Is it Mel or Mattingly--or both--he's got in his gun sight?

You gotta know the Mutts and this streak of theirs is driving DBG closer and closer to bonkersville.

Do you suppose the "or else I'm going to crush their hearts using the dark side of the Force" was silent?

Moff Torre: Lord Vader, this is an unexpected pleasure. We are honored by your presence...

Darth Vader: You may dispense with the pleasantries, Commander. I'm here to put you back on schedule.

Moff Torre: I assure you, Lord Vader. My men are working as fast as they can.

Darth Vader: Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them.

Awww... Georgie is so cute when he's mad. At least you guys have company downstairs, courtesy of another fine outing by Messrs. Wakefield and Renteria. Isn't it great what you can get for $200 mil?

Tool, he isn't mad, yet. When he gets mad, he won't be issuing statements, he'll be launching into tirades in plain sight of cameras and reporters. He considers the back pages of the Post and Daily News his personal real estate, and it is got to be galling him to see the Mutts taking over his backyard.

Posted by: TC at April 17, 2005 10:18 PM

If he isn't, don't you think he should be?

Posted by: The Curse of Big Papi at April 17, 2005 10:41 PM

I'd like to see him launch a small tactical nuke.... Some incredibly dumb, petty--yet pointed--manuever, like announcing that Babe Ruth's hunk of granite out in Monument Park is going to be mounted on a rotating platform to denote that the Bambino is now officially spinning in his grave.

But seriously, this godawful start isn't really anything new. For whatever reason, Torre's Yanks always seem to get off to a slow start. Even the '98 Machine was something like 6-10 out of the starting block.

And as I've said before, the Sox are Daylight Savings Time: Spring forward, Fall back.

Posted by: TC at April 18, 2005 06:55 AM

Ooh- that's clever. Clocks must've been broken last year...

Posted by: The Curse of Big Papi at April 18, 2005 11:38 AM

Yep, they're digging down for the antiquated jokes again.
