Death Comes Ripping on a Sunday

Misfits_logo.jpgSimple question for the evening. What's your favorite Misfits song? We posed the question to ourselves and some other bloggers who will weigh in later (we'll add as we get). Feel free to play along.

Mine first. You have no idea how hard this was. I had to leave off Angelfuck and Hate Breeders. That killed me.

Where Eagles Dare - Why? Besides the awesome refrain, you get to sing a line like "an omelette of disease awaits your noontime meal." download

Halloween - My favorite holiday, my favorite time of year and this song gets the imagery just right: brown leafed vertigo, I remember Halloween. Plus you got the whole burning bodies hanging from poles thing. download

Some Kind of Hate - because only Danzig can make the lyrics "The maggots in the eye of love wont copulate" sound like a love song. download

She - I liked this because if was about a girl with a machine gun. Hey dude. Tits and guns. Tits and guns dude. Guns and tits!! This song was gold before it was even put to wax. download

Devil Lock - Was this a song about their hair? I mean even though they looked stupid this song moved.download

Earth A.D. - A new venture and a new tone by the Misfits. Dumping the Goth-punk to becone Deathpunk on the first track. Pretty cool. download

Update: Tesco sends his favorites:

Misfits - All Hell Breaks Loose: I know its not all that glamorous but this tune is early hardcore at its finest. A perfect blend of simple rhythm, cut time drums and a pit sparking chorus. Perfection.

Msifits - Green Hell The best off the second real full legnth, so much so that even Metallica destroyed covered it.

Misfits - Death Comes Ripping : This is the first song that comes to my mind when someone brings up the Misfits - excellent tune. No new hard-rock, metalcore, neopunk band can even get close to this.

Scott from Strange Reaction adds his:

Night of the Living Dead - This sums up early Misfits to me. It has the obligatory "whoaoh" chorus and it's about zombies, what more can you ask from a Misfits song?

Earth A.D. - The best of their thrash period. Starts with a nice bit of feedback and then just jumps to life at a hundred miles an hour..

Bullet - Take the Kennedy assassination and mix filthy lyrics with Jackie O = winner!

dammit. i realized I missed nike.

"Where Eagles Dare" fer sure. (You better think about it baybee...)

I'm kinda partial to the songs on "Walk Among Us"... especially "Braineaters" and "Night of the Living Dead".

I second Where Eagles Dare. But the break in Mommy, Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight? makes that song worthy of consideration.

just to be contrary i had to pick 3 i hadn't seen on the list yet...

attitude - duh
we are 138 - best 2 note guitar solo ever
in hybrid moments - "your face is momentary" - heh

Its tough to pick just three right? Mommy and Hybrid Moments would have definately made my five list!

You are right this was difficult! Should do a list of what had to get left off.

Nike A Go Go = Cool lyrics and I love the way it alternates between the slow and fast rhythms. It gives you a moment to catch your breath in the slow parts and then jumps right back in.

Hybrid Moments - Not much comment on this one. Just a great song.

Skulls = I feel there may be something wrong with me at times, singing along to this at top volume in the car on the way to work, see your skin turned inside out, but Glenn's voice on this song sucks you right in to it.

by the way, turtle, that version of she fucking rocks. the organ. rocks.
makes me sad i didn't mention cough/cool

my favorite misfits song... ALL of them. It could change from hour to hour listening to their shit. I know it all, the words, the guitar, the bass lines for every stinkin misfits song and if i had to pick just ONE as my favorite, i'd asplode.

And that box set in the coffin box... God smiled on me the day i picked that up about 8 years ago. Until then, most of my Misfits was on 2nd, 3rd even 4th generation tape.

"teenagers from mars" is my favorite, at this particular second.

oops PS- i have a live version of Hank 3 doing Death Comes Ripping. I'll see if i can dig up the site i grabbed it from. That guy... man he's the shit.

Hybrid Moments so goddamned catchy. Reminds me that the Misfits were, when they wanted to be, a great pop band (in the best sense of the word). Also Die, Die My Darling. One of the first punk records I ever bought.

I have to go with Ghouls Night Out. The "Hell is where you wanna be" chorus is appropriate in so many situations.

And Some Kinda Hate is truly amazing.

Skulls, Astrozombies and - for some Evil Emo - Come Back.

This is tough...but i gotta go with the first song I ever heard by them (thanks to my buddy Brendan in 7th grade) Earth A.D. The cover art scared/fascinated the shit outta me and when I heard that feedback whine and "1,2,3,4..." I never looked back. I'm with brack on Come Back, too.

PS the opening line being SO badass and the chorus about his wolf-dad and whore-mom-Demonomania is up there, too. Bullet.138. Man, I could go on....

I'd say "Skulls" or "She" for me.

i did it kind of sceintific like. i checked itunes for which songs i ranked the highest and played the most.
highest ranked are earth ad, she
most playe are where eagles dare, astro zombies
