Top Five Sega Genesis Favs (In Order)

. PTO (Pacific Theater of Operations)
. Centurion -- Defender of Rome
. Jurassic Park
. Risk
. Starflight

But PTO was the king. The entire War in the Pacific, managing individual ships down to destroyers and aircraft down to the squadron level. And you could play as either the US or Japan. It scares me how much time I sunk into this game.

Maybe you can help me out here, Michele. My favorite Sega Genesis game ever was called "Speedball 2 - Brutal Deluxe." I lost the game many years ago and have never been able to find a copy in any used game store anywhere. Part of the problem is that I bought the game while living in Tokyo, so the title may have been erroneously translated. Does anybody remember the game? Did anybody even play it? Man, I played that game till my fingers dripped crimson.

I spent a lot of time with Sonic and the Lion King and Aladdin side scrollers

No mention of Shining Force? Silly people...

Earthworm friggin Jim. Hells yeah.

I became quite addicted to Sonic Pinball. I didn't have a Sega system (loyal Nintendo customer until about two years ago), so I played it at my cousins' house.

Sorry, lots of time Sonic/Lion King/Aladdin, but not nearly as much as the Gran Turismo, SSX and Grand Theft Auto series' on PS2. I'm sure I've clocked over 1000 hours each on SSX1, SSX2, GTA, GTA:VC and GT3.

(Not to hijack the thread or anything like that :)

Phantasy Star IV
Revolution X
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Sonic Spinball

Ryan, the MESS emulator runs Genesis games fairly well, though I think it used to have trouble with 6-button gamepads (I haven't tried the newest version).

It's not hard to find game ROMs to download, although it is technically illegal to have a ROM file unless you own the original game cartridge. It is hard to find a ROM site that won't crap up your system with spyware.

Try http://www.emulator-zone.com/ and http://www.romnation.net/

I gave myself numb thumbs playing Sonic 2. I heart my Genesis.

Both X-Men games were cool. Especially number 1 with Nightcrawler and infinite mutant powers.

Sonic 2 was slightly better than 1, but that was the pinnacle for Sonic games.

No mention of Shining Force? Silly people...

After spending money on the abortion known as Shining in the Darkness, I stayed far away from any "Shining" Genesis titles.

Madden
NBA Jams

I can see James & I have the same tastes:

Sonic Spinball
Phantasy Star II-IV (loved the bit where you could combine spells)
Shining Force (also previously mentioned)

Ryan, there's this neat thing called Google--search there and you'll find that Speedball 2 - Brutal Deluxe is available for $1.99 at eStarland.

We have the 16-bit Sega Genesis console. My 7-year-old kicks butt in anything Sonic. I like the Castle of Illusion because I have half a chance at that. Tiny Toons, I can't get past that first special stage, the kid sails right on past me. We also have Tailspin, which is pretty popular here.

Mutant League Hockey? Come on -- Mutant League Football was much better. How can you not love a game where you throw dynamite at the halftime marching band?

I got Sonic the Hedgehog series for our Xbox (all the Sonic game Sega released) - it's awesome being able to play all those games again without having to hook up the Genesis.

Mickey's Mouse's Castle of Illusion rocked. My brother and I played that for hours on end.

Streets of Rage 1&2 (I still nod my head to the boss themes)
Spiderman
Tazmania

And, shockingly, no one's mentioned... Michael Jackson's Moonwalker??

Actually, Castle Of Illusion DID rock. You just brought back memories. We once had a cable station where you could play sega games if you had the converter.

Snow Bros
NHL 95
NBA 95 (took the Capitals through an entire season with my college roommate and won the championship... most dedicated I've been to any game, ever)

Might and Magic III pretty much killed any social life I had for about three months...

You forgot Shinobi III. Shame. I mean, who can argue with a game that has the Big Boss attack with his hair.

There was also a Mickey and Donald's World of Illusion game, and while it's not as good as Castle of Illusion, it was worth it to play Donald and get his ass stuck in a tunnel, then get Mickey to pop him out =) you had to play both characters in sequence to finish the levels!

Yeah, I did the Google search shortly after my comment. The last time I did a Web search on that game was probably three years ago, and the results back then, shall we say, were not quite so lucky.

I'm definitely with Blackjack on the Mutant League Football, that game rocked hard! Toe Jam & Earl was pretty sweet too. I still always liked Altered Beast for some reason and Golden Axe was pretty good too.
