I've never seen any of those movies either. And someone's life who is near and dear to me would have to be on the line before I get within a country mile of Titanic.

I only saw the first half of Titanic. Allegedly, I once saw Gone with the Wind, but I'll be damned if I can remember any of it.

No Hocus Pocus by Foucs on Best Instrumental?
Titanic and GWTW are worthwhile. Mulholland Drive is artsy fartsy. I've never seen Last Passion and will speed surf over it when it comes to HBO/Starz/Whatever.

"Focus" he meant to say. And if you include yodeling as singing, I suppose it's not an instrumental. Withdrawn.

I'll never forgive hubris for introducing me to ASV... LIKE I HAVE THE TIME!
an now you praise some of the best of The Pink Floyd.
great. now there is no possibility of escape for me.
and I like it. I'm satisfied in my ASV bound spiritual cave. sigh.
oh well, I guess I can start with the complaining... when's the next post? when when ?

The monkey dances again at 5.
Please do not feed, taunt or tickle the monkey.
But do throw money.
Posted by: michele | May 4, 2005 02:48 PM
heh heh ... tickle the monkey
Posted by: coolrobc | May 4, 2005 02:57 PM
"One of These Days" should be disqualified because it has, you know, lyrics.

Best Instrumental Rock/Pop
1) Spanish Fly - Van Halen
2) Call of Ktulu - Metallica
3) Star Spangled Banner - Jimi Hendrix
4) Peaches En Ragalia - Frank Zappa
5) Hawaii Five O - Ventures
What is the ruling on Moby Dick. Does a drum solo count? If it does, it would be on my list.

Tickle the monkey at your own peril...:P

Never seen Titanic and likes Woodpecker from Mars. A woman after my own heart.

I shall speak up for Axel F, surprised that I am alone in doing so.
Posted by: Jeff R. | May 4, 2005 03:39 PM
Oh, Beverly Hills Cop, of course! Stellar stuff.
And kudos also to the Zappa and Ventures selections.

One of these days
I'm going to cut you into little pieces
Almost an instrumental. But not quite. I'll leave it there anyhow.
Posted by: michele | May 4, 2005 04:24 PM
I've always wanted to make a mix of -
*Depeche Mode: St. Jarna
*Depeche Mode: Kaleid
*Nine Inch Nails: A Warm Place
*Nine Inch Nails: The Persistence of Loss
*New Order: Elegia
*New Order: Don't Do It
*The Smiths: Oscillate Wildly
*Electronic: Lean To The Inside
*Pale Saints: Reflections From A Watery World
*Teenage Fanclub: Is This Music?

Add to Best Instrumental rock/pop song
Glad - Traffic (John Barleycorn Must Die)
Signe - Eric Clapton (Unplugged)
Glad and Freedom Rider which follows it on the album are my favorite 'turn it UP' music to clean house by.

since someone's mentioned Axel F, i'm gonna have to mention Herbie Hancock's "Rockit." or, does it not count as instrumental?
worst band image/gimmick? can we throw in Styx's "Kilroy was Here" space rock opera in there? cuz that was some horrible shit. Himitsu wo shiri ta, my ass.
Posted by: mikey | May 4, 2005 05:30 PM
Your list for worst band image/gimmick neglected the genius that is Gwar.
Man, I love those guys. Uh, monsters.
Cheers,

Dave? Right there. On the bottom of the post:
Cause I love them so.
Posted by: michele | May 4, 2005 05:53 PM
While more of an individual accomplishment (though meeting your criteria) no gimmick list would be complete without:
Conversely, I think a great gimmick would be authentic mugshots while totally basted. My dream band

Buckethead can also go into the instrumental songs category. How versatile!
Posted by: michele | May 4, 2005 06:13 PM
Instrumental
Hole in the World: Moody Blues (John Lodge composer)
Posted by: Alan Kellogg | May 4, 2005 06:44 PM
Gone With the Wind: "Slavery wasn't THAT bad, really! Removing it destroyed a beautiful culture."
Hence the title "Gone with the Wind."
Posted by: Andyzero | May 4, 2005 08:29 PM
One of the all time great instrumentals: Losfer Words (Big Orra) by Iron Maiden.
Posted by: Shawn | May 4, 2005 09:37 PM
I'm sorry, I don't believe everything I read.
But seriously-- am I an idiot, or what?
I really have to stop huffing so much thinner. It interferes with my blogospheric comprehension.
Cheers,

I can proudly (?) say that I have never seen those films either.
I avoided titanic out of principle (exactly what that principle was i don't remember).
Passion of the Christ: I hear that the book was better and besides my aramaic and latin isn't up to much.
I don't think I had the patience to sit through Gone with the Wind. Bits I did see seemed to be incredibly dull.
Is Mulholland drive the one with all the sex in it? Probably get around to that one one of these days :-)
