Billy Elliot makes me bawl like a fucking baby.

"Chick flick" that I, a guy, think is one of the best movies EVER made:
An Officer and a Gentleman.
My professed love for this movie is what convinced my wife that I actually DID have feelings deeper than beer, sports and music... you could say it's one of the reasons I'm a happily married man today.
I don't think I've ever publicly admitted that before. Must be the iPod making me more comfortable with my masculinity.

Have ya seen 'Hoosiers'?
Posted by: lucia | May 2, 2005 12:37 PM
Yah, one of my favorite movies, but I don't cry, for some reason.

~ I love Brian Piccolo. And tonight, when you hit your knees, please ask God to love him. ~

Favorite Chick Movie: While You Were Sleeping. Eccentric families are cool.
Chick Movie that I Love But am Ashamed to Admit: Win a Date With Tad Hamilton
Teary Movies: I was a wreck for days after the final scene in Forest Gump, but that had more to do with where I was at in my life at that time. It still gets to me, though.
michele, I'll believe you are a hardened, cynical, unfeeling, soulless person if you can get through an episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition without getting weepy.

waitwaitwait... you cry at Armageddon?!?!?
i'm no culture snob, but i'm sorry, i have to laugh at that.
to make you feel better... chick flicks that you don't like, but i really like:
Pretty Woman
An Officer and a Gentleman
Posted by: mikey | May 2, 2005 12:56 PM
The last twenty minutes of Armageddon, only.
Slart, don't ever put me in front of Extreme Home Makeover while I'm PMS. There aren't enough tissues in the world.
Posted by: michele | May 2, 2005 12:59 PM
Extreme Home Makeover uses unfair tactics. I don't know what they are, but they are clearly manipulative and cruel.
Beaches made me cry a lot. Also, I am Sam. Dakota Fanning is unfairly cute.
But the movie that always makes me cry, Beauty and The Beast. (The Disney version, of course.)

Favourite "chick flicks": On Golden Pond; Singles (and, if it counts, Cameron's Titanic).
"Guy flicks" I detest: Fight Club; Die Hard (all of them!); Raging Bull.
"Weepers": Field of Dreams; Longtime Companion.
Posted by: Doug McKay | May 2, 2005 02:04 PM
Last two movies I got severely choked up at the end: Saving Private Ryan and Philadelphia. You really have to be made of stone not to get choked up by the home movie scene in Philadelphia. I saw Field of Dreams as a teenager; it had the same effect at the time.

no matter how many times I've seen it, I'm still sobbing at the end of Edward Scissorhands, dammit.
and I agree with michele on all of the chick flicks listed.

Caddyshack
The Great Escape
Rocky II, III, IV

If you haven't seen Sin City, you need to.
Best film adaptation of a GN I've ever seen.
It IS the Frank Miller comic. Only live action and on a big screen.
I've seen it twice now, and will probably see it a third time.
Michele, you will LOVE it (if I'm not an idiot and you haven't seen it yet).

You've got me confused with Lesley. I be the one that played along.

Oops, sorry. Just saw the trackback and assumed :)
Posted by: michele | May 2, 2005 05:22 PM
Aw, com'on, why is nobody mentioning these great movies (which I tend to cry at, too)
Braveheart
Major League
Casablanca
Posted by: Linda F | May 2, 2005 08:50 PM
Philadelphia, Braveheart and Little Women (the one with Clare Danes as Beth)...choke me up every time!
Chick flick I love: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Chick flick I hate: Dirty Dancing
Posted by: Anna | May 2, 2005 09:21 PM
Posted by: Darleen | May 2, 2005 09:29 PM
The last 20 minutes of Armageddon only? If the last twenty minutes gets you, the dude leaving a toy spaceship on his son's porch has got to tweak a tear duct or two, no?
Or maybe I'm alone in that.

Michele,
You didn't cry at "Terms of Endearment" when the little boys learned that their mother was dying from cancer?
At least I coughed and examined my Personal Organizer at that moment.
You must have a heart of stone.

Like Crank, I always tear up at the end of Saving Private Ryan.
When he asks his wife "Am I a good man," I just lose it.
Posted by: Sean M. | May 3, 2005 04:17 AM
Wait a minute...you cry during Leon?
When?
Posted by: Ryan | May 3, 2005 01:24 PM
I don't know if it's a guy movie, a chick flick, or something in between, but even though I've seen good Will Hunting 20 times, I still tear up like a little girl every time I see it. Of course, I laugh my ass of at some parts, too, so maybe it evens out.
Posted by: Chip Redmond | May 3, 2005 07:18 PM
I cried at the end of Steel Magnolias, because I had just spent two hours of my precious life WATCHING STEEL MAGNOLIAS. UGH.
How can you, "Doug McKay", as a man, dislike Die Hard? See, it's a love story, and all John McClane wants to do is get back to his wife. AND it's a whiz-bang-shoot-em-up thriller. (Dessert topping AND floor wax! Wow!)
Okay, I get a little teary at the end of Independence Day, get off my back already.

Anything with Jet Li
Crying Movies:
Green Mile
Cool Runnins

Guy movies I hate:
-All Stallone movies other than Rocky
-Under Siege
-Platoon

Movies that get my hay fever going:
-Big Fish
-Braveheart
-The Apartment
-Friday Night Lights
-Armageddon (I completely understand what you mean)
