If it's tuesday afternoon, this must be a meme
Via about a hundred people, but most recently Jim:
10 albums randomly selected from my collection:
Well, I'm at work so I'm selecting ten random albums from the iPod.
- Anthrax - Attack of the Killer B's
Startin up a Posse'. Milk. Keep it in the Family. I'm the Man. It doesn't get much better than this if you're into Anthrax. - Billy Idol's Greatest Hits
What? He rocked. I still have fantasies about that sneer and spiked hair. - Clawfinger - Clawfinger
Scandanavian metal with lyrics like:
Nobody perfect but I'm pretty fucking close
and I'm here to give you all a heavy heavenly close
I think you better listen cos I know who you are
and I think that you should treat me like a superstar
It's the kind of stuff you listen to when you feel like dropping on anvil on someone's head.
- Taking Back Sunday - Tell All Your Friends
Long Island emo. Decent album that I can take in small doses. The double vocal thing gets tiring after a while. Update: Joel mentions in the comments that TBS lost about half their band in between this album and the follow up. Tell All Your Friends is infinitely better than Where You Want To Be, which seems to have been made with marketing in mind. So if you're going to try ayn TBS, pick something from TAYF (I'll upload a track tonight).
- Strapping Young Lad - City
You haven't heard hard until you've heard Strapping Young Lad. Oh My Fucking God is the most dangerous song on earth. - Limp Bizkit - Three Dollar Bill Y'all
Shut up. I know, I'm always beating down on Fred. But this album was pretty decent. It was before Fred starting whining instead of screaming. Before he discovered the nookie and before Britney broke his heart. - Mindless Self Indulgence - Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy
How to explain MSI? I can't. Here:
bitches love me cause they know that i can rock
bitches love me cause they know that i can rhyme
bitches love me cause they know that i can fuck
bitches love me cause they know that im on time
throughout the projects
Like that. They're fun, but not exactly work friendly. I skip around MSI a lot when I'm in my office.
- Combustible Edison -Four Rooms Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Best instrumental soundtrack ever. The movie itself was great, but listening to this music makes everything seem like fun. - Black Label Society - 1919 Eternal
Zakk Wylde owns you. - Misfits - Box Set Disc 4
Not so much work friendly, either, but I just can't resist a little Angelfuck during the day.
What is the total amount of music files on your computer?
At home, about 24 gigs. On the Ipod, I have 8 gigs.
The last CD you bought is:
Brand New, Your Favorite Weapon. Both my kids own this CD, but I wanted my own copy. How many times have I mentioned this Long Island band in the past two months alone? I'm obsessed. YFW is their first album and it's chock full of great song writing. While they matured greatly - both musically and lyrically - on their second album, Deja Entendu - YFW still has some of their best moments, like Soco Amaretto Lime (which I'll offer an mp3 of tonight). Some might classify Brand New as emo, but I don't want to pigeon hole them like that. Think Dashboard Confessional with more depth.
What is the song you last listened to before this message?
Snot, Snooze Button
Five songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you
# Weezer, Undone
# Toadies, Tyler
# Faith No More, Midlife Crisis
# Incubus - Redefined
# Quicksand, Thorn in my Side
[These are five songs that I've been listening to a lot lately. Songs that mean a lot to me would take up too much time, and I've already started working on that, anyhow]
Who are you gonna pass this stick to?
Whoever feels like fetching it.
Comments
Thoughts:
Mindless Self Indulgence is completely nuts. Whenever my roommate is in a mood, she blasts a couple songs from them--particularly "Bitches," "Bring the Pain," and "Tight." I thought she was kind of crazy at first, but they quickly grew on me. The music is hard to resist.
Billy Idol fucking rocks. I saw him in concert at a small venue in Portland about a year and a half ago and it was a hell of a good show.
I love Tell All Your Friends. Their new album is good, as well, but nowhere near as good as Tell All Your Friends. It's a shame they lost half the band.
Do you listen to Thursday at all?

Strapping Young Lad - City
The entire All Hail the New Flesh/Oh My Fucking God/Detox trilogy is insane. Devin is God!

The only reason I have any clue who MSI is: an otaku video of "Bitches" done with Pikachu on lyrics. Very entertaining.
I'll have to track down a CD.

I was just thinking I should get that Anthrax album on CD. I have the tape from back when I was in high school. I also love Taking Back Sunday and Brand New. Have you ever check out Fall Out Boy. That is the band that I can't get out of my cd player these days.

Haha, I love MSI.
I hate Jimmy Page.

Whoa, Tyler. I used to listen to that song on repeat for hours on end. With the advent of the MP3 player I have listened to it a lot recently again as well. This blog gets better and better.

OK, I realize I should have read this post more carefully the first time to avoid three comments. But Disc 4, yeah.
How you have kids is beyond me. I don't know anyone that hip. But I'm in law school, you're required to suck at things normal people like to be here.

I must be an old fart.
The only artist you mentioned that I've ever even heard of is Billy Idol, and I understand the sexual fantasies, oh yes.

I miss Anthrax, the version with Joey Belladonna, Dan Spitz, Scott Ian and Charlie Benante.
This is not to say that 2005 Anthrax is no good, it's just that, well, they really seem like the modern versions of The Temptations or The Guess Who (ie. one original member, and he's the one who contributed the least to the success of the original outift. Not only that, but the average fan wouldn't recognize that original member if they ran headlong into them coming out of a mens room - which is what happened to me in 1992 when I saw The Guess Who at a nightclub).
I don't mean to knock Charlie - as a matter of fact, I still have a drumstick he hurled out into the audience of The Cameo Theatre in Miami Beach back in 1987 when they were on tour with Exodus and Celtic Frost. Unfortunately it has a huge burn mark on it. Evidently, a renegade tater tot fell onto the heating element of the oven, and my ex-girlfriend grabbed the nearest object she could find to try and retrieve it.

Here's the "Bitches" videocadrys mentioned. Enjoy!

John,
Scott Ian & Charlie are both original members... 'twas Scott, Charlie, Dan Spitz, Danny Liliker & Neil Turbin in the band originally.
I should get paid to know this shit.

Charlie is the only original member left in their current incarnation. I have no idea why Scott left the band. I haven't seen anything of him since his cameo in that "Calendar Girls" movie.
Neil Turbin was a good vocalist, but the band didn't really hit its stride until he was replaced by Joey Belladonna (like what happened when Bruce Dickinson replaced Paul DiAnno in Iron Maiden).
"Spreading The Disease" is one of the best metal albums ever. (I know it's probably not considered "heavy" compared to the stuff you guys are listening to, but please don't pelt me with tomatoes).

Correction, you were right, Jim. I just rang a friend who has confirmed that Scott Ian is still with the band, and that his departure was a mere rumor.
Sorry (he says cowering)

If you like Toadies, you might want to give Burden Brothers a try. sound is a little different, but it's the Toadies singer on vocals. I'd say they're 8/10.
MSI, on the other hand.... Their new stuff blows. Their old stuff is classic. Much like Billy Idol.
