what's so funny about..... [updated]

Apologies for the lame blogging day. If it's any consolation, it was lame day around the homestead, too.

I'm working on a post for the morning that I need your help with. Without letting on what the topic of the post is (though some of you may figure it out), I'm just going to throw some questions out here for you.

First, if you're posting anonymously in the comments, I need to know if you're male or female.

Now:

What's your favorite comedy movie? Favorite comedy tv show (past or present)?
Can you recite lines from Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Animal House? Steve Martin comedy routines? Saturday Night Live sketches? Ever play with a nerf gun? Tell fart jokes? Laugh at fart jokes?
In as few words as possible, what kind of humor appeals to you?

Remember, it's important to state if you're male or female (if it's not already obvious).

Thank you.

Added question:

Who is your favorite stand up comedian (past or present)?

barney miller, wkrp

Can you recite lines from Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Animal House? Steve Martin comedy routines? Saturday Night Live sketches? Ever play with a nerf gun? Tell fart jokes? Laugh at fart jokes?

Can and do recite lines from all of the above. Including, "just a flesh wound", "fart in your general direction", "is he bigger than me?", etc. Not so much SNL, since the joy left the show. Steve Martin had this punny joke about a girl's "cat". Fart jokes: see "general direction".

In as few words as possible, what kind of humor appeals to you?
quirky

Stand-up comic: toss-up btwn Bill Cosby and Bob Newhart.

Oh, and I checked and I am still a guy.

Male.

What's your favorite comedy movie?

That's hard. Pure comedy, probably Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Also love Rushmore and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Favorite comedy tv show (past or present)?

Also hard, but I sure love Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Who is your favorite stand up comedian (past or present)? Hmmm, probably George Carlin.

Sex: Female
Movie: Ghostbusters. If someone asks you if you're a god, you say YES!
TV Show: Invader Zim. Also South Park and Family Guy.

I can recite lines from Monty Python (the show as well as Holy Grail) and Steve Martin routines, but not from SNL sketches or Animal House. I will play with Nerf guns, but will not tell or laugh at fart jokes unless they're really good ones. My favorite stand-up comedian is Lewis Black.

Sarcastic/dark/weird probably best describes my sense of humor, but sometimes it's really hard to tell what'll get me.

Movie comedy: This is Spinal Tap
Television comedy: Monty Python reruns
Holy Grail: Yes, and Life of Brian, Meaning of Life, Something Completely Different, Secret Policeman's Ball, and even Jabberwocky (which is about a third Python)
Steve Martin: No, but I have it on vinyl™.
SNL: Not really. And I hate those who say it absolutely sucks now. I guess compared to those best of shows of yesteryear, any real show of today would suck. It's been better, but it's certainly not dead.
Nerf made guns? All I had were footballs!
Fart jokes? People actually TELL fart jokes? I thought they just happened spontaneously, like their inspiration.
Laugh at them? It is a humorous noise, as is proven when I make raspberries on my ten-month-old's belly. Of course he laughs, but he's a boy.
Best humor: absurdist, dark, with an edge, even if it has a good heart

Stand up? I really don't care for stand up. I like comedic acting, not monologues. But I guess that my favorite is David Sedaris. Not a comedy giant, he.

Comedy TV Show: Strangers with Candy

Lines from Monty Python: Yes, but not as many as i long to.

Those other questions: no, except i do laugh at fart jokes. I. Am. Not. Ashamed.

What kind of humor appelas to me? The Innapropriate kind. Yes, the kind that is so innapropraite it has to be capitalized as if it were a proper noun. Damn I'm retarded.

ope! and i'm male. but a gay one.....so...judge accordingly i suppose.

I'm a guy.

What's your favorite comedy movie?
As a whole, Monty Python and the Holy Grail; however, there are scenes in Slapshot that give it a run for it's money.

Favorite comedy tv show (past or present)?
Despite my movie choice, I would have to go with the classic SNL up to/through Eddie Murphy I suppose.

Can you recite lines from Monty Python and the Holy Grail?
Yes.

Animal House?
Some, yes.

Steve Martin comedy routines?
No.

Saturday Night Live sketches?
Yes.

Ever play with a nerf gun?
Yes.

Tell fart jokes?
I said I'm a guy didn't I? Yes.

Laugh at fart jokes?
If they were funny. :)

In as few words as possible, what kind of humor appeals to you?
It all depends on my mood, but the truth is often the funniest. satire and general mocking will most likely get at least a chuckle out of me...

Yes (pre-1990 only)

Ever play with a nerf gun?

Yes

Tell fart jokes?

Yes

Laugh at fart jokes?

Yes

In as few words as possible, what kind of humor appeals to you?

In all seriousness, all kinds. I love comedy from South Park to Woody Allen movies, and everything in between. I like gross and tasteless; I like slapstick; I like intellectual and dry. If it's funny, I dig it. Probably not the answer you were looking for. Sorry.

Favorite stand-up comic?
Honestly, a no-name guy named Todd Yahn that I saw at a comedy club in Baton Rouge on 3 different occasions. As far as people you've heard of, I'd have to say Howie Mandel

Male
Movie: Top Secret! / The Jerk
TV: Ren and Stimpy / Alas! Smith & Jones
Python: Yes, a Few lines
Animal House: No
Steven Martin: No, only lines from his movies
SNL: Yes
Nerf Gun: Never
Fart Jokes, Tell: Yes
Fart Jokes, Laugh: Yes
Humor: Lowbrow goofiness

Shawn--Dane Cook is freaking hilarious. I considered putting him down for my favorite, but I think Carlin edges him for me, if only because he gives me something to think about, as well, and he's got quite a bit of history and material. In terms of pure laughs per minute, though, Dane Cook has him beat and every other stand up comic I've seen.

Male

1. Clerks
2.Currently King of the Hill, used to be Simpsons, still get a kick out of Bevis and Butthead ("would you like to pet my poopy?")

3. "My name is Tim. but ther are those who call me.... Tim." (yes, and I am pathetic)

4. Popular pull out "Have a beer, they don't cost nothin'"
Obscure: "Don't flatter yourself Otter, It wasn't that good."
Nicknamed after the aforementioned Otter.

5. Steve Martin? Not lately. but love him in Three Amigos.

6. "Cheese burger medium."

7. Started a Nerf tag game in College where everyone got a gun, put in 20 bucks, and got a "target," and was a target themselves- only you didn't know who had you. Last person to survive won the $$. 70 Paranoid idiots of 20 slinking around a campus in the Bronx with nerf guns. Not too smart, but lots of fun.

8. Farts are the funniest human noise ever. I think a person could make a great deal doing standup just ripping ass for 15 minutes. I'd buy a ticket and a mask.

9. See above.

10. Obscure, simpsons pre-season 6 type humor where at first it may not be apparent, but it hits you an hour later.

Favorite Stand up: shockingly strange, perhaps I should get beaten for this, but I really love Dennis Miller.

Laugh at fart jokes? Usually.
In as few words as possible, what kind of humor appeals to you? Wordplay. I love Groucho Marx and Bugs Bunny
Who is your favorite stand up comedian (past or present)? George Carlin

I'm a male. I do know a few jokes. I also like the movie know as "TBL" (bowls me over).
There have been times in my military career that lines from the Monty Python movie were monotony breakers. Life savers when alertness is safety. Fav movie, comedy genre: "The Cheap Detective". Comedy TV fav: Red Skelton. Current: Rodney, no really. But it has more to do with Mac Davis cameos.
SNL: Steve Martin, maybe, maybe not:
"excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse Meeeeeeeeee! Ring any bells?

1. Male;
2. Being John Malkovich, Caddy Shack, Something About Mary;
3. The Honeymooners, Old SNL, Friends;
4. Yes to Holy Grail, Animal House, Steve Martin, older SNL;
5. Nerf gun? Probably. Tell Fart jokes? Not that I recall, laugh at them? Probably;
6. Dark, twisted, sick, sarcastic, politically incorrect, satire;
7. Probably Steven Wright back in the day. Today, I dunno.

Male
Favorite movie: The General by Buster Keaton
Favorite TV show: Futurama
Recite Holy Grail lines: Yes
Animal House? May I have ten thousand marbles, please?
Steve Martin comedy routines? A few
SNL sketches? You're as blind as a bat and I have sight.
Play with a nerf gun? Not enough
Tell fart jokes? Oh my no.
Laugh at fart jokes? Oh my yes.
Favorite type of humor? Sly visual humor. Clever dialogue. Not a fan of gross-out humor. I hate puns.
Favorite stand-up? Mitch Hedberg, though I'll probably think of someone I like better later.

Female.

Favorite comedy movie: Office Space, hands down, but I think Trading Places holds up really well so that'd be second.

Favorite comedy TV show: Kids in the Hall.

Can recite from the Holy Grail: Yes, but damn am I sick of those who do.

Animal House: No. I've tried to watch that movie dozens of times and I'm always too bored with it to continue.

Steve Martin comedy routines: No. Another one I never got the appeal of, at least not back then. I like all his late 80s/early 90s stuff that most Martin fans tell me isn't his best work.

Saturday Night Live sketches: Absolutely.

Played with Nerf gun: No.

Tell fart jokes: No.

Laugh at fart jokes: Not generally.

What kind of humor appeals: That's tough. Stupid, but not scatological; I'm not usually won over by slapstick; surreal is good as long as it doesn't get too arty; genuine smartassedness is a thing of beauty and a joy forever, but smarminess is the anti-laugh.

Favorite stand-up comedian: Probably that dude I quote all the time, Chris Rock. I loved Norm Macdonald, but I'm not sure stand-up is really his thing. Dennis Miller was good before he went all middle-aged bitter. I liked Paula Poundstone before the weird shit with the children came out, but most female comics leave me cold. I am allergic to Elayne Boosler and suffer from seizures with prolonged exposure to Janeane Garofalo.

What's your favorite comedy movie?

Laugh at fart jokes?
Oh boy, do I ever.
In as few words as possible, what kind of humor appeals to you?
The funny kind.

Nerf Gun? My girlfriend and I were once kicked out of a 24 hour WalMart for having a running nerf gun battle from toys to crafts.
Tell fart jokes? Who doesn't?
Laugh at fart jokes? Who wouldn't? Plus, don't forget the actual farting, which I find incredibly funny when I do it.

In as few words as possible, what kind of humor appeals to you? Physical comedy is good, sometimes it's the greatest, but too few comics can really pull it off. I generally prefer parody, satire, farce, and black comedy.

Humor that appeals to me is the kind that uses our everyday lives to make us laugh.

D'OH I missed the comedian. Okay, favorite comedian, it's a tough one but I'd have to say Buddy Hackett.

Honest to God I'm not that old (barely 38) but thanks to my parents patronage of a local comedy club/theater in round place, I was privileged to see a lot of great comics my last two years in high school, not only guys like Richard Pryor and George Carlin, but the Borscht Belt greats like Buddy Hackett, Don Rickles, and Phyllis Diller. Of all the comedians I saw, no one could hold a candle to Buddy. By the time I saw him he was old enough to be my Grandfather and he still cracked me up. He told one joke about a trick prostate that restricted him to semiannual erections that still slays me. The punch line? "Fish Fucker"

Male: fav male comedian: Red Skeleton

Know lines from Holy Grail, Animal House, SNL, and at one time in my youth had an encylopedic knowledge of Steve Martin's entire recorded standup output (to where four of my friends and myself could, and often would, do 5-15 minute chunks in unison...)

No nerf gun usage, but will laugh at own farts and related jokes therein (although I thought Blazing Saddles went a smidge over the top...)

In as few words as possible: I loved the bit on Drawn Together when Princess Clara got pushed down the stairs in the M. C. Escher Room...

Least Favorite Stand-up Comedian of all time: ROBIN WILLIAMS. Am I the ONLY guy in the world who finds Robin Williams' "Look-at-me-I'm-a-brilliant-improv-artist" SCHTICK completely irritating? It's like having a friend, who never got enough attention at home, pumped full of meth running around your living room waving his arms and spewing hundreds of annoying little voices that are ALL just subtle shades of that stupid farking Mork voice. Jeezuz God, that guy is fucking irritating. His coke years were the worst. I'm sorry, I NEVER bought the idea that he was somehow a brilliant humorist simply because he talked fast and mimicked three types of voices: 1. Macho guy/cowboy type/Redneck 2. Old Lady 3. Squeaky childlike voice. Oh yeah, whatta brilliant comedian...criminy....
