Scrappleface has a serious post on how we can help. It is pretty classy.

The Salvation Army is also soliciting donations (http://www2.salvationarmy.org/ihq/www_sa.nsf) for the International branch. They prefer cash rather than merchandise for relief efforts.

You did a good thing here, michele.

In terms of donating to tsunami relief efforts, unlike many, many other such relief organizations, the Portland-based Mercy Corps has been known to refuse to leave areas other non-governmental agencies flee, and earlier this year they refused a Defense Dept. grant for their work in Iraq because it would have come with restrictions on talking to the press.

Here's some info on the joker who called the US relief efforts stingy and suggested that US citizens be taxed more (we won't mind!)

Southern Baptists and other Christians can help by sending financial gifts for aid through the IMB disaster relief fund. Send gifts designated "Asia Earthquake Disaster Relief" to the International Mission Board, P.O. Box 6767, Richmond, Va., 23230 (to give online, go to the International Mission Board's website, www.imb.org, and click on "Give Now" in the box highlighting this story). All funds given will go to relief efforts; none will be used for administrative costs.

OPERATION BLESSING is another great organization.
They had operations in the area and are already responding.
See the NewsMax article on Operation Blessing:
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/12/29/163906.shtml
I also received the following e-mail on 12/28/2004:
The tragedy that has resulted from the Tsunami in the Indian Ocean is indescribable. The suffering is beyond measure. All indications show that disease and privation may take more lives than the 52,000 who have already died.
Operation Blessing, with existing operations strategically placed in Hyderabad, India; Jakarta, Indonesia; Chiang Mai, Thailand; Manilla, Philippines; and Singapore, is answering the call to assist victims of the Tsunami. Our centers have in-country staff and volunteers already on the ground organizing medical teams and relief supplies for hard-hit areas.
Operation Blessing India has a medical and relief team en route to Nellore to assist those made victims by the Tsunami. Our team will provide medical care and emergency rations. Operation Blessing India also has a medical team mobilized to assist thousands of victims in Chennai (Madras).
Operation Blessing Indonesia has chartered a private aircraft in Jakarta and is sending a disaster response team to Aceh in Northern Sumatra. In addition, and in cooperation with the Indonesian Airforce, a C-130 is being readied for a large Operation Blessing team of medical professionals and volunteers. The plane will also carry three tons of medical relief and supplies.
Our Singapore office has already launched a medical and relief team to assist the victims in the devastated areas of Sri Lanka.
In short, Operation Blessing is now on the scene to help, at least in part, some of those who are suffering. All we need are the funds to enlarge our effort. It is our plan to distribute from our headquarters no less than a million dollars so that our teams can purchase needed supplies in country at the best possible prices without customs duties and overseas transportation costs.
If your heart is touched by this massive human tragedy, please respond with your expression of support. Contact Operation Blessing at www.ob.org or call (800) 952-5377.
We cannot help everyone who is suffering in this tragedy, but we thank the Lord that we are able to play a part in this vitally needed humanitarian effort. God bless you, and thank you!
Pat Robertson
Chairman/CBN and Operation Blessing
PS - Just mark your donations or expression of support “Tsunami Relief.”
