CBS Statement: Double Plus Ungood

Via Drudge (no other link yet) bq. Statement by the President of CBS News, Andrew Heyward:
"We established to our satisfaction that the memos were accurate or we would not have put them on television. There was a great deal of coroborating [sic] evidence from people in a position to know. Having said that, given all the questions about them, we believe we should redouble our efforts to answer those questions, so that's what we are doing." Holy doublespeak, Batman. So, I take this to mean that they were satisfied with the accuracy of the memos before the show aired. It's only because people are making such a big deal about it that they will look into the issue again, just to shut us all up. Redoubling of zero is still zero. Looks like my pajamas are safe.

They went through a few hours of delays just for that? Little odd.

Note the word "accurate." Not: "they were authentic." Just: "they were accurate."

Forgeries that speak the truth? Plan B, as others have called it.

For some reason, I'm reminded of Darth Vader's statement to an underling who also vowed to "redouble our efforts:"

"I hope so, Commander, for your sake. The pajamahadeen are not as forgiving as I am."

"The documents were crap we threw together at the last minute because we couldn't find any evidence, but we know the claims are true."

Oh, that's much better...

I'm slightly amused that after all this delay for this silly statement, they didn't bother to spell-check it in Microsoft Word. At CBS, they probably figure that's one of those complex procedures like disabling the automatic superscripting that only an expert could do.

- Brit Humes FOX piece on the memo's is just so absolutely damning its painful to watch...Even NPR's Juan Williams looks like a deer in the head lights and is now calling openly for CBS to come clean...Of course He didn't miss the chance to repeat the faithful liberal lies about the swifties... The left is just tarred and feathered at this point...Whats worrisome is if this eventually leads back to the DNC and Kerry's camp it could throw the whole election into turmoil...with hardly enough time for the Dems to field a viable alternate...beating the other guy is one thing....taking the process apart at the seams is another...

Update: Ok they went with the old lady ... Now we'er down to mind reading...what next Terrot cards...

You know, the left would be in an awful tizzy if other aspects of life got to use this kind of reasoning.

Imagine the ACLU if we arrested a guy, manufactured evidence to convict him and then responded with, "Yeah, well he did it anyway."

And their foundation is going to be this old lady who hates Bush..that's like hanging your hat on a major Kerry donor and acting like it was a legitimate intervi....ooooh...hrmmm...nevermind.

(Ahem) Did I not say there would be a hefty helping of doublespeak earlier?

I'm so proud.

CBS should be ashamed.

Almost, Michele:

They were satisfied with the accuracy of the memos before they were written.

The reason they didn't run the memo throught a spell checker is because they probable typed it up on one of they IMB Selectric typewriters. I don't think they came with a spell checker.

Good news, republicans.

Rosemary Woods, a noted secretary, is alive!

Maybe she can show up on camera and remember what a great guy Nixon was. Hell, it counts as proof nowadays

So... does this mean, no pajama cookies...?

My heart, it breaks :(
