There's an interesting bit of speculation over at National Review's "The Corner," that the Gephardt story in the NY Post might have been purposeful disinformation by the Kerry campaign. I.e., setting the Post, an "enemy" paper, up for a discrediting "Dewey Defeats Truman" moment.
It is hard to figure how the Post would've committed so heavily unless they had a source they felt was pretty darn solid. But then again, those things do happen, so it might just be that they were relying on an unreliable source.
