too many songs in my head

Updated: The new ones are marked with a bullet These are the lyrics I've guess right (I think) so far. I haven't looked at any of your answers yet. I'll add to it as I think of more. And frankly, there are some songs on this list that I'd rather not be caught singing. My (thus far) answers below. 221) Hold On Loosely - 38 Special

If I repeat any of these, I'm sorry. Just trying to fill in some of the blanks.

44. Love is a Battlefield by Pat Benatar, but yes, it totally reminds of that horrible movie "The Legend of Billie Jean." (particularly that last scene where everything's on fire and she cuts her hair. how embarassing that I know that.)
97. Wild Thing - Tone Loc
31. "Always"? - Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam
37. "1999" - Prince
75. "Dude looks like a lady" - Aerosmith

196. "Lean on Me" - Club Noveau
148. "That's just the way it is" - Bruce Hornsby
222. "Cool It Now" - New Edition

Please, someone tell me, what is number 9? I know I know that song and now it's driving me crazy!

44. We are strong, no one can tell us we're wrong - love is a battlefield (Quick, what movie does that song remind you of?)

Gigli.

You saw Gigli??

*18. I think I thought you were someone else ( I know I know this one and it's killing me) AhA! It's REM - but what song?

That's from one of my Top Five - Losing My Religion

"You saw Gigli?"

I saw the trailer, and that's more than anyone should ever see.

"You saw Gigli??"

Rented it as a goof to see what all the moaning was about. I thought it would just be a tedious love story between hit "persons". A Prizzi's Honor meets Chasing Amy. It was much much worse.

Shameless exploitation of a mentally disabled boy where the "tear jerking" scenes made you more angry than anything else.

Remember this was rented as a goof but our little audience reacted with hostility.

Argh,

I can't believe I got number 14 wrong!

I listen to it every week in the opening credits for Knights of the Zodiac.

#164 - is by Tracy Chapman - Fast Car
#213 - The Beating of our hearts is the only sound - I think we're alone now - originally a late '60's tune.
#72. He turned to me as if to say, "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you" - by Toto - Africa is the name of the song.
68. I'm always workin', slavin', every day
Nothing But a Good Time (Poison)

Those are the only ones that come to me that no one else has figured out.

It would be interesting to see the ages of those of us who recognize which songs. I loved the 80's music - and I'm 51 - but I wonder if I love the same stuff that someone who is 41 or 31 loves?

*18. I think I thought you were someone else ( I know I know this one and it's killing me) AhA! It's REM - but what song?

That's from one of my Top Five - Losing My Religion

Ironically, that lyric isn't from your Top Five. That lyric is from REM's "Pop Song '89"

Perhaps you should rethink your Top Five? ;)

Without checking to see if anyone else got them, I got two more (apologies if anyone else wrote them above):

195. Sail away with me to another world - Islands in the stream, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers

198. Yo no soy marinero, por ti sere, por ti sere, por ti sere - La Bamba, Richie Valens

And in case you haven't figured it out yet, Lean on Me was done by Bill Withers

Yea, but Bill Withers did it in the 70's. Did someone remake it in the 80's?

52) Your Love - the Outfield
117) Mr. Roboto - Styx
133) (Our Love's in) Jeopardy - Greg Kihn Band

and annastazia's wrong on #37. i am 100% positive it's:

37) I Can't Go For That - Hall & Oates

Damn. I remembered this part of the song:

I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

and slipped that line in there.

Oh, well. It's still on my Top Five.

Yes, someone did a remake of "Lean On Me" in the '80s, a sort of bepop remix, but I don't remember the name of the group.

I posted the current (as of this comment) list of songs we're missing in the comments of the post above.

Ooops, I think Mikey's right. I think #37 actually is Hall & Oates.
And yes, Bill Withers originally did "Lean On Me" but it was remade in the 80s by Club Noveau.
