do you want to play a game? (lyrics version)
Total lack of posting today. Still feeling the mono. So, open thread here.
Following my posting of random 80's song lyrics last night, you could do the same. Sort of a Guess Song By Lyrics game, except you both give the lyrics and guess the lyrics that other people leave. Got it? Good. No guest login today, just use the comments. And no freaking Sister Christian lyrics or I will rip your balls off. And I say balls, knowing who the Night Ranger culprits always are.
I have to rest up so I can go out for a nice huge piece of medium rare dead cow tonight, washed down with about five pints of Killian's Red.
Have fun, turn off the lights when you leave and behave.
[Don't forget to check out all the entries from the George Lucas is a Fuckwad poetry contest. You're all winners in my heart.]

Sooner or later
You're gonna listen to Ralph Nader.
Hint: It's from 1978

If you think the harmony
is a little dark and out of key
you're correct
there's nobody there.
No clue to the Ralph Nader tune.

#1 - Buzzcocks. "Fast Cars" or something like that.
My lyric:
Monkeys in the trees/
Just thumbing their nose
At the bull riders riding on rhinos

amanda:
NWA - boys n the hood
Posted by: mikey | February 13, 2004 03:21 PM
This grips me more than would a
Muddy old river or reclining Buddha
And thank God I'm only watching the game, controlling it...

Got to love Guadalcanal Diary , Watusi Radio
Monkeys in the trees/
Just thumbing their nose
At the bull riders riding on rhinos
Posted by: tom | February 13, 2004 03:41 PM
Charlie's in "Only a Northern Song" by the Beatles.
I know Amanda's is "Boyz n the Hood," but I keep hearing the Dynamite Hack version. Damn college radio.
The one after Amanda's is "Watusi Rodeo" by Guadalcanal Diary.
Here's mine, it's easy:
What's the point of robbery
When nothing is worth taking?

dorkafork's is One Night in Bangkok.
Creature in the sky got sucked in a hole.
Now there's a hole in the sky, and the ground's not cold.

forgot to put up some lyrics:
Don't talk to me about Women's Liberation
They already got me right just where it hurts
Posted by: Tom | February 13, 2004 03:47 PM
Dorkafork - "One Night in Bangkok" by That Guy Whose Name I Can't Remember Because He Never Hit the Charts Again.
My self-conscious attempt to be cool with a somewhat esoteric contribution:
If man is 5
Then the devil is 6
Then god is 7
Lyrics from a song I liked to way too much in my formative years because it had crude sexual innuendo:
Put your right hand out, give a firm handshake
Talk to me about that one big break
Spread your ear pollution both far and wide
Keep your contributions by your side
Posted by: TL Hines | February 13, 2004 03:59 PM
TL: What? The Stroke had sexual connotations? I had no idea.
The Chess guy's name was Murry Head.
Posted by: Eddie | February 13, 2004 04:04 PM
TL Hines first one is "Monkeys Gone to Heaven" by the Pixies.
Posted by: dorkafork | February 13, 2004 04:11 PM
And Eddie's is "Monkeys Gone to Heaven", too.

one of my personal favorites:
And they kissed each other
And they turned around
And they saw me standing in the aisle
Well I did not say much
I just stood there watching
As that .45 told them goodbye

I can't believe it myself.
Suddenly I'm up on top of the world,
It should've been somebody else."

"RYAN! it's the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO!!"
The unofficial theme song of my apartment building's BBQs last summer!
Posted by: Ryan | February 13, 2004 05:03 PM
"Great job, Ryan. Gonna be stuck in my head all night."
Misery loves company ;-)
Besides try having this one run through your head all day.
"(I say) We can act if want to,
If we don't nobody will
And you can act real rude
and totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile"

Ryan - Safety dance. Doh.
"Take the baby to the river,
Kyle William they called him.
Put the baby in the water,
wash away little Kyle's sin..."

Oops. You knew we knew that one. Sorry.
I'll do my penance:
"Never fit quite right in school,
ran around broke all the rules,
you walked so tough and talked so cool,
that's right."

"Oh. To fight is to defend
If it's not now then tell me when
Would be the time
That you would stand up and be a man
For to lose I could accept
But to surrender I just wept
And regretted this moment
oh that I
I was the fool"

This gem...
"He's just a man
With a man's courage
Nothing but a man
But he can never fail
No-one but the pure at heart
May find the Golden Grail"

I've been on the outside looking in
Let me into your heart, oh
There's nothing on Earth that should keep us apart...
Posted by: mikey | February 13, 2004 07:12 PM
Ryan's is on the tip of my damn tongue and sure to drive me mad all night...with that, here's an easy one...
A long, long time ago
I can still remember
How that music made me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for awhile

Now:
The roses on the windowsill

It's coming from the feel,
that this ain't exactly real,
or it's real, but it ain't exactly there.
Posted by: Jeff | February 13, 2004 07:39 PM
Not quite mainstream, but it brings back fun memories for me:
So you been to school for a year or two
And you know you've seen it all
In daddy's car thinkin' you'll go far
Back east your type don't crawl
Posted by: MojoMark | February 13, 2004 07:42 PM
At home, drawing pictures
Of mountaintops
With him on top
Lemon yellow sun
Arms raised in a 'V'
And the dead lay
In pools of maroon below

I'm taking flight, I said I'll never give it up

Ballet for a rainy day
phrygian
album: skylarking
my lyrics
and after a while you can work on points for style
like the club tie and the firm handshake
a certain look in the eye and an easy smile
you have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
so that when they turn their backs on you
you'll get the chance to put the knife in

...Floating in the summer sky
Panic bells it's red alert
There's something here from somewhere else
The war machine, it springs to life
Opens up one eager eye...

a little harder song (2nd verse)
I waved a diesel down outside a cafe'
He said that he was goin' as far as Gatlinburg
I climbed up in the cab all wet and cold and lonely
I wiped my eyes and told him about her
I've got to find her!
Can you make these big wheels burn?

Busta's Pink Floyd lyric is "Dogs" from "Animals".
Doctor, doctor, we have nothing in our pockets
We continue, but we have nothing left to offer
Faces pressed against the window
Hey, they're just my friends
But check this out
Don't be so slick
Break our backs
It goes like this:
