the best laid plans

So much for my Worry-Free/News-Free/Anger-Free weekend.

Hamas: Security Fence Won't Stop Homicide Bombers

Explosion Wounds 20 in Israeli Restaurant [UPDATE: At least ten 18 dead and thirty injured]

It's not even 9am yet.

Ok, so I don't have to get all emotional and blustery over everything. I can just link, without commentary.

Citizen Smash: French missiles in Iraq?

Maybe it's just me, but one would think that people dying in a terrorist attack is bigger news than a magician being mauled by a lion. A quick click through the news channels proves otherwise.

Turn off the TV, babe, and give us a kiss.

But see they have actually pictures of the lion attacking the guy, but not pictures of the guy blowing himself up. If there were no pics, the lion wouldn't be big news.

I guess you expect suicide bombers to blow people up every now and then. Roy being attacked on stage by one of his lions is unexpected.

One thing I would like to comment on is the somewhat-widely held opinion that "we American consumers get what we deserve." Frankly, I don't think I've watched "the news" (any news) for more than 5 minutes at a time since the initiation of the Iraqi attack.

I DO NOT watch news about: Laci Peterson, Bennifer, anything on Imus or Stern, or Couric or Zahn, the Plames, etc., etc., etc. To wit, the news nowadays represents to me an unending stream of sewage and half-baked rumors that no one is willing to invest the money to investigate in any depth or report with any balance.

I don't buy this whole, "if you didn't watch it, they wouldn't report it." Bullshit! They sit there and masturbate on t.v., and they sure as hell don't give a damn whether I want to see it or not. Frankly, I've come to believe they simply take the easy way out (and sure, there ARE people who will consume that, but I'm not yet ready to concede that it is the majority of the viewing public) -- and THAT'S why I think you'll see blogs come to predominate --- because I can always find someone on the internet to address the topics I AM interested in.
