vote early, vote often

simfamily.gifSure, I've done a millions Simpsons threads before. But this one is different. This one means something.

Forget your local primaries. Forget Arnold v. Arianna. I've got a more important vote for you to make.

FOX5NY, our local Fox programming channel, is running a Simpons Viewer's Choice election. From now until September 21, viewers can vote for their ten favorite Simpons episodes (from the ones listed below). Fox will air the 30 top vote-getters from November 1 through the 21st on it's nightly Simpons block (6:30-7:30).

You do realize the importance of this vote I have to make, don't you? This is not something one should take lightly. After all, many a man has been murdered while arguing Homerpalooza v. Lisa's Sax.

So I'm calling on all of you to help me decide which ten episodes to vote for. Please remember that voting is a privilege, not a right. We do not want a repeat of the 2000 elections here, so don't go trying to vote for a crappy episode just to throw a wrench into the proceedings. I can just imagine spending the next year or so listening to Ted Rall whine Two Bad Neighbors is not the real winner! That's the episode with George Bush, Sr., in case that sly reference went over your head.

Anyhow, vote, but only choose from the Fox-approved episodes listed below. They are not taking write-in votes and there is no vote for Worst Episode Ever, though that can be another thread for another day when I find myself at a loss for something important to write about.

Help me to make my vote count. (And if you live in New York, go vote yourself!)

Comments

Homer the Heretic would be my vote. Not only is it hilarious (as are 95% of the episodes), but it's spot-on satire or the faux religious types.

The X-Files one, just because it made Mr Burns seem so cute and non-threa... BREAK ITS LEGS! DON'T LET IT GET AWAY!

14 seasons, 300+ episodes, every one a classic and we're supposed to pick 10 favorites?

can't do it.

Just 10! Can't be done.

I'm going for Boy Scoutz in the Hood, because it has my favorite bit in it... where Bart bitches about the unreality of the Itchy & Scratchy cartoon while Homer sits on the couch and simultaneously walks past the window.

I'm also voting for a couple episodes I've seen only once -- and the episode I've never seen, where Mayor Quimby's son is on trial for beating up a waiter. I've seen all the episodes except for that one. It drives me crazy.

picking just 10 is hard. thanks to the recent release of season 3 on dvd i'm reminded of how good the episode where the germans buy the power plant is. i mean, "the land of chocolate" scene has gotta be one of the funniest ever.

mmmmm....the land of chocolate....

I'll just go for two right now: Burns runs for governor, and the duelling "Big Brothers" episode (especially when Bart pulls a Jimmy Cagney and rubs a half-grapefruit in Homer's face).

An interesting parallel discussion is when the Simpsons jumped the shark. It has clearly been unfunny for the last 5-6 years, and the list (http://www.jumptheshark.com/s/simpsons.htm) clearly can give you your own vote.

Too many choices. I live on LI and I watch the Simpsons every weekday (at least the second episode at 7pm) and I went backwards on the list (being that Fox has sown a lot of old episodes lately) and I reached my 10 choisces before I even got through season 9 (backwards it starts at 10).

Damn that show is good.

I just can't get Max Power out of my head.

Oh and whatever episode homer says, "mmmmmmm, organized crime."
F-in' brilliant.

Too many choices here. But the one where Homer balloons up to 300+ pounds (in order to qualify for disability payments) tops my list. That episode has so many good lines. "I want to see more Teddy Roosevelts and less Franklin Roosevelts!" says Mr. Burns.

Jeez. Only ten? Well, I always liked the Homer Phobia episode where Homer deals with his homophobia. One of the best lines: "Dad, are you hurt?" "Just. . .my bones. . .and organs."

Of course, you can't forget the episode when Ralph is crushing on Lisa, either. Best line: "The doctor says I wouldn't have so many nosebleeds if I just kept my fingers out of there."

Oh, there are so many. Soooo many.

"Bart, shut up. Lisa, drink the water."

Clearly, it's all about "Selma's Choice".
Now let me think about the other nine ...

Ralph: I ated the purple berries!
[Within moments, he collapses to the ground, groaning in pain.]
Bart: How are they, Ralph? Good?
Ralph: They taste like.. burning!
Bart: OK, food patrol blew it.

That episode taught me more about Lord of the Flies than I learned in all of my 6 years of high school

So... #1 "Das Bus"

9 more to go

by the way... episode guide can be found at The Simpson's Archive

Cape Feare has to be the best parody episode ever. Bob lying in the street and the FBI trying to give Homer a new name are two of my favorite scenes.

Hmmm...the Radioactive Boy one I think is one of my favorites...I'll have to spend a couple of hours going through descriptions of episodes.

"The goggles, they do nothing!"

Nearly impossible to choose, but:
Homer at the Bat - "We're talking Homer, Ozzie and the Straw."
Homer's Mother - the last scene, with Homer sitting on his car looking at the stars makes me cry

I recommend Homer vs the 18th Amendment (the Beer Baron episode)

Best line

"Listen up, rummy, I'm gonna say it plain and simple. Where'd ya pinch the hooch? Is some blind tiger jerkin' suds on the side?"

--Rex Banner

And if you watch carefully, you'll see a sign over the door of Moe's during the St Patrick's Day bash that says "Now hiring. No Irish need apply"

Top 10 would take a while, but my all time favorite, and it has no equal, is the episode "And Maggie makes Three," where Marge and Homer explain to Bart and Lisa, through flashbacks, why there are no pictures of Maggie in the house.

The end is awesome. I get choked up just thinking about it.

Homer: "We have lots of pictures of Maggie. I just keep them where I need them most."

I will have to ask Joey... he loooves the Simpsons :D

Colonel Homer: "Marge, it takes two to lie. One to lie and one to listen."

Marge in Chains: "Your honor, I move for a bad-court-thingy." "You mean a mistrial?" "Right! That's why you're the judge, and I'm the....law-talking guy."

Just sayin'.

Jeez, no one remembers funniest episodes! "Bart sells his soul" to Millhouse. "Marge's Gambling Problem" (my fav episode) there's a scene when Lisa wakes up from a nightmare and tells Homer and he shouts "ah! Boogeyman!" and scares Bart saying "I don't mean to alarm you but there might be a boogyman or boogeymen in the house!" "Lemon Of Troy" is probably the most underated and least shown episode of all. It's this whole competition between Shellbyville and Springfield on who owns the lemon tree. "Joy of Sect 9" is the best. (The mind controlling religious clan follow the "leader" they sing the batman theme song around the table) and also Bart vs. Australia. (New York City vs. Homer is great too with the Twin Towers. They don't really show that one for obvious reasons). I've seen every episode and am a Simpsons fanatic. I hope my suggestions helped. Believe me these episodes will make you cry laughing!!

I want to vote for the episode where the simpons go to New York. It is my favorite episode and the fight between Homer and the car boot is classic!!!

I must be blind. I clicked to vote on Fox 5 and I looked at NYPost.com, but I can't find where to vote. Please help.
