For those that wrote to me about Charlie Daniels:

When I referred to Charlie Daniels as a "tool" last night, it wasn't because of the letter he wrote to celebrities - although the idea of celebrities speaking out against celebrities speaking out borders on the asburd.

I like his one line that I quoted. It's something I might have said myself. But that does not mean I endorse everything he has ever said or done.

So why don't I like him? Here are some reasons:

Daniels wrote this shortly after September 11, 2001:

Why has this happened? Why has a nation which has enjoyed the blessings of God for over two hundred years suddenly experienced such a catastrophe? We’ve shaken our fists in God’s face for far too long. We have ignored His laws, belittled His son, taken His name in vain until it’s almost a national slang word. We have allowed radical groups like the A.C.L.U. to all but remove the name and reverence for God from American society. We have murdered untold millions of unborn children and tolerated an immoral president in the name of a good economy. We have proclaimed that homosexuality is just another lifestyle when the Bible clearly states that it is an abomination to God. We have encouraged illegitimate birth, and condoned living together out of wedlock...

There's also the updated version of his big hit Uneasy Rider, titled Uneasy Rider 88. The song is about two guys mistakenly going into a gay bar and wanting to beat the shit out of everyone in the bar when they found out the patrons were gay.

Somewhere along the line, Daniels went from southern rocker who loved to party to devout Christian. Nothing wrong with that. What's wrong is that he takes every opportunity to pepper his rants with words like pity and wrong and hell-bound when talking about non-Christians.

Sure, I tend to agree with him on foreign policy issues. Doesn't mean I think the guy walks on water, though.

I must say I have to agree with you.

Me too. I'll never have much of anything nice to say about someone who talks about non-Christians being "hellbound."

The only reason I'm 'defending' Daniels in that other thread here is because it seems as if some people are treating his Hollywood-letter as some kind of reasoned argument, which it obviously isn't.

I think CD has some of the same thing GWB has: clearly, both believe Jesus saved them from the road to personal destruction they were on with drugs and/or alcohol. I think both are at least honest in their beliefs on this, unlike the politicians (and some country singers) who use religiosity as a prop to appeal to their audience. I find it annoying in either case, but at least it's better when not hypocritical.

I agree with Charlie on everything he says except this part:

"We have proclaimed that homosexuality is just another lifestyle when the Bible clearly states that it is an abomination to God. We have encouraged illegitimate birth, and condoned living together out of wedlock..."

"We have encouraged illegitimate birth, and condoned living together out of wedlock..."

well, uh, we have. I'm not touching on the homosexual part, because I don't agree with him there, but as for what I've just quoted... we damn sure have encouraged illegitimate birth and such. We pay for it.

Hmmm, I lived with my wife out of wedlock (even had sex too!) and all is well... married now for going on 6 years with our first child on the way. Premarital hoo-ha isn't the problem; personal responsibility is.

And Geoff, you're now saying that CD's post wasn't carefully reasoned - but you originally asked me for the logical fallacies (implying, one would gather, that you thought it was well-reasoned). Which is it?

I realize his open letter was inflammatory bufoonery, as do you I think, but I'm trying to reconcile your two statements.

boy i love how people let a out of date book control there life lol. can some give me defition of adultery? the real meaning is back in those time women were look as property. its adultery when you have an affair with another man women when there married , breaking up a family. but if they have an affair with a single women then its not adultery.
