games people play

I knew I forgot to post something last night. Thanks to Zogby for reminding me.

Yesterday, Robb left this comment in one of my morning posts:

"Has anyone here ever played Taboo? You have to get your team to guess a word without using a list on the card you have. It's a riot.

I think we should play "Iraqi Taboo". Here's the rules - Describe why we should not attack Iraq. Here are the words / phrases you cannot use -

Hegemony
Empire
Bush
Blood For Oil
Right-Wingers
More Sanctions
Peace Vibrations

Anyone can play - even if you are pro-war it will be fun to try. I can think of a million variations of this game. Think of this one as your Wednesday distraction.

Sovereignty, I say! Every nation deserves the right to kill its own children without the intervention from Bush's Blood For Oil, Right-Wing Empire blasted do-gooders!!!

america should not attack iraq because one nation should not supercede the one governing body of the planet and risk throwing the globe into turmoil for the unpopular interests of a few people. As any child knows there are ways to rectify problems without tantrums or violence, nations should know that there are other ways to deal with prodigal allies besides large-scale war.

Aw fuck it! Why not call a spade a spade!? ;-)
Hegemony

Petroleum Enema

You left the French an easy way out!

On ne doit pas faire la guerre, parce que le deuxième 'Buisson' et les politiciens de droite veulent seulement de l'hégémonie et de l'empire. Ils veulent le sang pour l'huile. Nous avons besoin de plus de sanctions!

"One can not go to war, because the second 'Bush' and right-wingers only want hegemony and empire. They want blood for oil. We need more sanctions!"

'Empire' is spelled the same, so maybe that's disqualified, despite the different pronunciation.

"because one nation should not supercede the one governing body of the planet"

What if the "one governing body of the planet" has proven itself useless and morally bankrupt by treating free representative republics the same as tyrannical dictatorships?

Smash the U.N., I say. The very idea that the whole planet should have "one governing body" is ludicrous in today's political and social climate.

I'm with you Geoff! Let's make it a free-for-all battle royal of international darwinism where the richest and most powerful nation rules the planet. And if there are international disputes and problems with dictators they can "have a meeting" where problems are brought before the "godfather" country to be settled. That sounds like a better plan. That way, if a country like Iraq get's out of hand, they can just have 'em "whacked" or "make them an offer they can't refuse."

Fuck the UN -- it was a stupid idea anyway.

I mean, why find out if other countries are okay with potential large scale war breaking out -- especially now that technology and growing markets have led to a global culture of social and economic interdependence?

Don't tread on me. Only the strong survive. Sounds like a good idea. ;-)

one nation should not supercede the one governing body of the planet

There is no "one governing body" of this or, to my knowledge, any other planet.

The sole authority over Americans is the government of the United States of America. Any illusion to the contrary was just the result of us being polite.

Can we say free flow of oil at market prices and establishing a regime to prevent pricing power on the world light sweet crude spot market by Saudi Arabia? I know it doesn't make as sexy of a tee shirt but …

You know, Dan, there's a lot to be said for "being polite." Sure, the UN counts for shit, but that's like saying your parents count for shit because they can't control your actions anymore.

It's about respect. And acknowledging the benefits of a world where there is universal respect for an organisation which represents co-operation, understanding and peace/

Meanwhile, back on Earth, The UN (which is obviously the "governing body" under discussion) has not represented "co-operation, understanding and peace" for quite some time. Rather it has represented a place for leaders of every Thug World Nation to pretend that their governments are as legitimate as those of actual democratic nations.

Huge karmic retributions.

who cares?
