news fairly unbalanced?

Iraq bans weapons of mass destruction.

This would be a really moving moment if Iraq was indeed capable of "ratifying a decree" in a democratic manner.

However, it reads more like a parody. I half expected to see the byline read Scrappleface.

So, if Iraq is banning WMDs today, that leaves still unanswered the question of what they've done with the ones they're known to have. Blix doesn't have a clue where the Iraqis have hidden them.

The great eruptions of joy by the Iraqi parliamentarians remind me of the times of Stalin, when a signal had to be installed to allow attendees at his appearances to stop clapping. No one wanted to be the first to do so, lest the Lubyanka and Siberia loom in the immediate future.

And of course, we've heard the talk about the mother of all battles before.

Look, Tim, they've outlawed the weapons, and that's that! Jesus, when will you warmongers get some sense?

Is it just me or does that picture look like the guy is laughing at anyone who actually believes they're serious about the ban? And this jumped out at me:

Saleh Abid Ali, another member said: “It is a pity to destroy the weapons of our power, because then we will be harmless.”

How can they destroy weapons that don't exist?

Well, Imust admit, you have a point here. To me also it looked like a piece of bad comedy and not international politics. If it weren't such a serious topic it would be really funny. So I think we are in consensus that Saddam ridicules the UN. The difference we have is who else does that. I say it's the US and you say it's these Banana-countries like Cuba, France, Germany and Russia.
