viggo my precious, this is what you really mean..

Poor Viggo. So unenlightened. So unaware. I guess he's been hanging out with Sheryl Crow, because he was seen recently wearing this shirt: (as seen at Sean Kirby's place)

I thought to myself when I saw this, "Self, the shirt really isn't conveying the message Viggo wants to get out to his fans. Let's fix it up."

So I did:

I think that gets the point across much better.

And I think it's time to make some comic strips.

MAGIC MARKERS DESTROY THE ENVIRONMENT!

heh, good one Michele. I was so pissed at the first "no blood for oil" shirt I had to take all of my Aragon pictures down and replace them with fluffy kitties :) I've been tempted to write an open letter to all of my favorite actors asking them to PLEASE stick to what they know best and leave off of the pontificating. I'll be absolutely crushed if Vin Deisel pulls something stupid like this.....

LOL!! Perfect! Thankfully, Viggo and Aragorn don't even seem to resemble each other, it's fairly easy for me to only see Aragorn when I watch the movies. Thank goodness!

Dropping the Ring of Power into the depths of Khazad Dum is the answer.

Michele, I thought you might appreciate this anti-war page......

War!
Huh!
What is it good for!
Getting rid of dictators, you idiot. (Say in Ren voice for added effect: "You ee-diot!")

(Actors are almost human in their sounds and movements, aren't they?)

You should see the anti-Hollywood talk attis site......Its good stuff. The motherlode: http://www.rachellucas.com/

Pfish ought to remember that the One Ring has to be dropped into the fires of Mount Doom. Khazad Dum was the Dwarves' city. And Viggo, Mordor is Iraq, Barad-Dur Saddam's palace and Frodo Dubya.

For a cinematic antidote to this sloganeering, may I recommend the classroom scene at the beginning of "Starship Troopers"? I think it says it all.

I thought Khazad Dum was what the Dwarves called the fires of Mount Doom. But my brain must have broken temporarily. My seventh grade self would snort and look upon me in disgust--I used to have the books practically memorized.

I know there is some official name for Mount Doom though. The Elvish name or the language of Mordor or something....can't remember it though.

Sorry for the length, Michele - but as a big Lord of the Rings fan, this shit really bothered me . . .

Apparently immune to irony, Aragron says "War Is Not The Answer" . . .

. . . and all the men, women, and children of Helm's Deep are promptly slaughtered.

Aragorn: "Whoops!. Sorry - can we have a do-over?"

Real world: "No, dumbass. This isn't a movie. They're all dead - and they're going to stay that way."

For Pete's sake, if The Lord of the Rings stands for any moral principle, it is this: we must be vigilant to defend against and defeat evil before it becomes too strong for us to fight at all. Somehow Viggo managed to play a starring role in this epic morality play - at a scenic locale in New Zealand - and still totally miss this most basic of points.

Here it is, Viggo - try and get it this time: Some people are evil. Some of these evil people become leaders of despotic regimes. These tyrants only understand victory and defeat. They will not change their goals, ever. (See Charles Krauthammer's article from January 17). Either we defeat them and liberate their populations, or they will defeat us and subjugate ours. To make it real plain for you, Viggo, that means they defeat and subjugate you, me, our families, our children, our friends, our countries, our hopes, our dreams, our freedoms, our pasts, our futures, our everything.

If the ideas of Viggo Mortensen had held sway over the past century, all of the public buildings in Europe (and maybe the U.S.) would currently be displaying flags emblazoned with a swastika - or a hammer and sickle. And ol' Viggo and me wouldn't even be free to have this discussion. (Try going on a speaking tour in China, Viggo).

We don't mind defending you, Viggo. You don't even have to say thank you or anything - but please do shut the fuck up.

sudden flash of memory

Orodruin!!!!! Right?

(I remembered it without cracking the books or checking Google either.)

Aragorn in the movies, Grima Wormtongue in real life...

At first I thought the shirt said, "GWAR is not the answer."

I dunno. I think labelling Viggo as Grima Wormtongue might be a bit overkill. Viggo is probably just a guy who had an ivory tower view of the world--quite a lot of people do. I don't think he's bought and paid for by The Enemy--whoever that happens to be. And in his mind, he probably thinks he is doing what is best. Never mind that you can't encapsulate world policy on a glib, one line t-shirt.

nikita, that deserves a "bravo!"

Can't remember whose blog I saw it on, but I like:

War is not the answer.
Victory is the answer.

Why does such a hot Aragon turn into such an idiotic and not so attractive Vigo?

Fredo, if GWAR were the answer, do we really want to know the question?

Viiggo is not saying lay down and play dead.he is just stating that there has been enough blood shed allready , why kill more.
Try reading what Nelson Mandela and many of hundreds of people on whether or not its the humane choice or the right choice! So don't knock a guy for having an opinion about people and mostly women and children being killed because Bush is inpatient.

I love Viggo's shirt at least some people stand up against your fucking president!!!!!! No war on Iraq!! I never cared much for Viggo but now I do geez you people here don't seem to have any brain left... I am glad Germany and France are against the war.

Drop Bush not bombs!!!!!

It is a story. So obvious. He did it for his kid. Why? Cause he loved the STORY. Why? Cause its not reality, good triumphs, and we all love that. No matter how sinical we are. Viggo you did good. Lets play chess some time, now there is a war.
