Try spelling Kimberly like I do. The variations are amazing.

whatever... you guys have nothing to complain about. My name is never spelled correctly (even when being directly copied), never pronounced correctly (they get the weirdest sounds out if it, involving k's and b's and p's and all sorts of stuff), and generally assumed to be backwards ("Scott Dagny") causing me to get into arguments that can last fifteen minutes trying to defend my identity, since I'm of the wrong gender to have the first name of Scott and therefore can't even go along with it.

gottdamnit, i am so with you on this one, doll. 'tis my middle name -- with ONLY ONE L. as far as i'm concerned, any other spelling would be uncivilized. and, as trivial and nitpicky as this may seem, i am a sniveling bitch hog regarding my vigilance that this be acknowledged and remembered.
make note: michele -- spell it with ONE L or smoke a turd in purgatory, kids. =:-)

no one ever spells my name right either. i've lived with my one roommate for going on 3 years now, and she still thought my name was Teresa instead of Theresa. sigh

My name has been spelled every which way under the sun. With an E, with a Y, two words, one word, one N and so on. For a time -- I think it was fourth grade -- I spelled my own name differently and then I accepted what I had. Everyone else, on the other hand, thinks Marianne, Mary Ann, Mary Anne, Maryanne, or Marion is my name. Whatever... I give up! As long as it's spelled properly on legal documents and checks, I don't fuss any more.

What brought on this post? My wife is JenN not Jen and she flips too.

I am just sooooo sick up you stuck-up types with your stupid, weirdly spelled names! What makes you so special that you think you can screw with the way things have been spelled since like forever? Huh?

But, but, your other email address!

It wasn't me again was it..?? Sorry if it was. I try, but once I start typing, sometimes my fingers go faster than my brain, and certain combinations are just programmed. What's my punishment if I do it again? :)

Even when I spell out my last name, it's wrong.
"Y" does not mean "w" like in "WHY".
I was getting my cell phone renewed and right off my license they wrote down "W".
I feel your pain.

I have just the opposite problem as Theresa. I have to constantly explain that my name is spelled just as it sounds. I then get a 15 minute lecture on how that is not the proper Catholic spelling. To which I can only reply, "I am not Catholic, thank God!"
Posted by: Teresa | November 6, 2002 04:48 PM
I thought it was "Evil Wench"! My bad.
Posted by: Solonor | November 6, 2002 05:23 PM
I meant "Demon Wench"...can't even read my own writing...cursed glasses...
Posted by: Solonor | November 6, 2002 05:25 PM
Butt, Michelle, its two much werk to get that write. U R a demanding women, Michelle.

I was thinking of changing the spelling of my name to 'Myc Brownnnq' (the Q, of course, is silent).

i have a friend, named Debbi, who gets very mad when I accidently (after all... my name is DebbiE) add the E at the end.

I get "dear RobIn" e-mails all the time. I always just reply changing their subject and the name in the e-mail hoping they catch it, and quietly kick things as I do so. The worst is when my Gma screws up and sends cards with that spelling though. Hello?! I'm the only Roby/in in the family and I'm almost 30... But then again, my cousin gets cards to "Brain" quite frequently, too.

I knew that! I knew that! And I always spell it right! (Yeah, I'm proud of the little things.)

My name is Meryl, but people keep pronouncing it "Meryl." I hate when they do that. It's pronounced, "Meryl".
Clear?
Great.

I've got a nine-letter last name of Eastern-European Jewish origin. No one spells it or pronounces it correctly. What's funny is that if people just take the time to look at it before trying to pronounce it, they'd get it right. No silent letters, pronounced just as it's spelled. Ah well.
Reading your comments, and seeing all the folx who'd misspelled your name, I was wondering if you'd ever say something about all the double l's :)

Too many variations of my name also. Try this on for size. Alicun. Big on phonics, that one.

Sorry, Michele. Love, Johnn

I hate it when people ask "How do you spell your name?" Um, DUH! "Is the L-E-E-S..."
shakes head
Where, oh, where did some people go to school?
And one L or two, we still love you, Michele!

To probably misquote Tom Lehrer:
"I have a friend who"s such an individualist he spells his name 'H E N 3 R Y.' The '3' is silent of course."
Posted by: Ric | November 7, 2002 03:21 PM
I almost forgot, how about the run-ins with people who try and tell you how to spell your name?
I don't care if it makes no sense, It's not like I asked for a phonically incorrect last name.

As someone who routinely gets HIS name spelled and/or pronounced wrong, I'm proud to state that I spelled yours correctly on my blogroll.
I had to double check it twice before saving, but I got it right.
