ELECTION DAY 2002: VOTE OR I'LL KICK YOUR ASS

I just did my civic duty. I think that was the longest time I ever spent in a voting booth. But I came away from the polling place not only with a sense of pride, but with a pumpkin pie and a tray of chocolate chip cookies. What a country!

To make democracy work, we must be a notion of participants, not simply observers. One who does not vote has no right to complain.

I've been exhorting people to vote for the past week, but less vociferously. I think your threat has more credibility (and certainly more exposure) than my remonstrations. ;)

HA! I came back w/ choc chip cookies and fudge! Go figure!!

I live in Britain, so I'm not voting. So there.

Go on. Try to kick my ass from that sort of distance. I dare ya. I'm not paying for the plane ticket either. Ha.

And no anthrax-laced envelopes via air-mail either. That's not fair.

I must admit that I didn't vote today. There are, however, extenuating circumstances. I moved to another city recently, and whilst getting a new drivers license, I re-registered to vote. The amazing Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles didn't manage to switch my registration, so in order to vote, I would have had to make a 3 hour round trip to my former precinct. Not feasible, unfortunately.

If I had known, I would have at least filed an absentee ballot and cast my votes in the Peoples Republic of Bloomington. Bah!
